Square cover dashboard

Featured Replies

Ok , Mr Stupid here, after 2 years of ownership finally got round to thinking about the 0.75" square plug/cover between the hinge of the top dash box and the screen(car is an SE level vehicle) - what is it for, plug underneath? stalk location for sat nav? help please!

Annie has a square blank section - about 30x30mm, slightly domed - in the middle of the centre screen vent just forward of the top box. I hadn't really noticed it before.

I think it maybe the sat nav signal receiver - but I may be wrong. That's where it was on my last car.

The domed bit, is the sun sensor for the climate control, if you ain't got climate it might be a blank.

I was wrong!

There was me thinking it was the receiver for the remote locking!

Definitive answer anyone?

Has been answered somewhere before I believe. It is a sunlight sensor for the climate control, or a blank if not needed.

Yes, it is the sunlight sensor for the HVAC. If you drive on a hot sunny day through France do NOT attach your Sat Nav over this as the AC will just push out the merest hint of cold air. I learnt this lesson on my Audi when I was symmetry obsessive and had to have the TomTom in the middle... to later think I need to replace the gas in the AC... to later realise but the AC works 100% when I'm not using the TomTom.... to realise: DOH. :giggle:

^^^What he said^^^

The sat-nav receiver is built into the aerial (shark fin) and the keyfob works by radio rather than IR so the receiver is buried.
