Fuel Dripping noise?

Featured Replies

Hi all!

I've recently purchased my first Octavia, a 05 1.6L petrol. Nothing too exciting, just a runabout for my family.

I've also found my first mystery. I had my full service and MOT last week and I've discovered a problem.

I did a 60 mile trip with a few stop starts and on one of the journeys when I stopped I could hear dripping from inside the fuel tank. I checked around the exterior and couldn't see anything.

It sounded like it was dripping into liquid. I opened the fuel cap and there was a massive release of air. It then stopped dripping straight away.

Does anyone have any ideas? I've seen other people with similar problems but no answers.

Is it related to the Service? This tank of fuel has a redex engine cleaner, could it be that?

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure about the dripping noise, but most cars these days deliver more fuel to the injection system than it actually needs at any time, and then return some of it to the tank. So that may be perfectly normal.

The rush of air is pretty normal when you open a fuel tank.

Yea I thought the air was normal, but it's worth mentioning incase it does tie in.

I wouldn't like to think the dripping is normal. It's a loud sound - and hasn't happened in 6 months - until I take it to have it's service.

However I'm no expert so you could be completely spot on, and I would prefer you are as it's cheaper for me. Although I would like to think i'm not going to hear dripping every so often.
