Vrs and mods

Featured Replies

Ordering new vrs end of month and could do with a little advice. Will keep car standard until engine has run in.Does skoda still honour 3yrs warranty when mods have been done.Start off with HKS turbo timer, new hoses then maybe FMIC.Not looking to remapp engine until warranty has expired.Would it be worth doing these mods and will warranty still be valid. Is fiitng HKS timer straight forward(can you keep wiring loom for skoda vrs).Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm no expert but I would imagine that any engine mods would invalidate warranty.

If not......enjoy it!

When you say ordering a new vRS, is that new new as in previously unregistered? You can still get them then? With regards to mods, start playing with bits of engine you can see and yes warranty may well invalidate itself, however depends on what might go wrong. If the windscreen wipers fail, I can't see how a FMIC can be seen as the catalyst for the problem, however if the turbo goes bang then maybe. My car has never had a mechanical problem in its life despite/inspite of lots of tweaking. So pay your money and take your choice. Maybe wait 12 months before you start doing serious stuff - I still reckon if you've brought a duffer of any sort, anything that's likely to go wrong will during those first 12 months, especially if you would ordinarily put quite a few miles on the clock!

I think that most mods invalidate the warrenty but maybe only for the things connected to them, i.e a remap may not invalidate the brake warrenty, or maybe they will, personally I would either buy a used one out of warrenty if I wanted to mod it that bad or wait until the car was 3 years old then do the mods, however me and 3 year old cars are few and far between :)

Good luck either way.

Just do things that you can reverse if you need to take the car to the dealer e.g. CAI, TIP, recic valve.

What is the attraction of fitting fit a turbo timer?

Turbo timer - keeps engine running after ignition is turned off to cool intercooler.

Shouldn't that be to allow turbo to cool?

only point is to remove money from your wallet.

Perhaps because the same effect can be achieved by sitting for a minute or 2 with the engine idling before switching off? Using a turbo timer in the UK risks invalidating your insurance and also being booked if the car is left unattended on the public highway with the engine running. Spend the money instead on something useful - like a good DV or a green panel filter - or put it towards a remap.

i asked about turbo timers at jabba and they said that they don't really need them

Turbo timer should do any harm and will help cool turbo......that said what Denis said is pretty much true.

You only really need the turbo timer for track work...I think...when you really a pushing the engine. In normal every day use you would normally have periods of slow running.

Letting it run for a couple minutes before switching off...or preferable getting the fan to cut in...is good.

If you rag you're car you should never just stop and turn off.

* all my usual disclaimers apply. :D

IIRC, Jon (as in TaviaRS) commented that the time it took to smoke a fag once you stopped but left your engine running was a sensible period, equivalent to a "turbo timer". However for the non-smoker (like me), would this be akin to the time taken to suck on a Werthers Original (without chrunching!)?

Wouldn't mind a turbo timer myself (I like the look of the HKS and APEXI ones)...but it would be a gimmick for gimmicks sake imo and it would deffo invalidate your insurance if the Alarm/immobiliser is Thatcham approved.:(

Tried to get a turbo timer fitted but told on authority that fitting it would require cutting into the ingition loom, which will immobilise the engine and require Skoda to unlock it!
