1.9tdi won't start

Featured Replies

Hello,

Got a 110 tdi elegance, car used to splutter a bit and then start no problems. After a weekend away the car won't start, it does crank though but when you give up the ABS light comes on with another warning light, looks like a warning triangle with a circle around it. After that the oil warning light flashes and beeps.

I've checked the oil and topped it up. No gunk to indicate a gasket problem nor has it had any previous problems. I have no vacs or bag com either.

Anyone with any ideas?

If the engine fails to start, you will get the oil pressure warning light (and others) with a warning beep.

When you crank, do you see an RPM displayed or does it stay at zero?

Have you checked the fuses?

If you loosen one on the injector union nuts and crank, do you get any fuel leaking from the joint?

Relay 109 on the plate under the dash is a prime contender.

I'd start with a set of jump leads just in case its the battery

Thanks for the suggestions. Will give them a go starting with jump leads. Will feedback soon.

Random warning lights coming up is a sign of the battery voltage falling too low. Also, if a critical cranking speed is not reached then I believe (from a previous thread) that starting is inhibited. Check battery connections and the battery itself.

Check / jump lead battery, and failing that check/replace Relay 109 (main electrics relay).

Cranking speed is only taken into account for a warm start.
