Audi s3 mk1 bose system

Featured Replies

Hi, just a quick question. Would the above fit into my mk1 vrs, as the standard speakers are absolute sh*** and possibly the most tinny cheap sounding rubbish I have had in any of my cars and now bugging me!

Thanks!

Probably cheaper/easier to get some aftermarket stuff TBH!

I have some and the rears dont...

The Bose system is specced and EQ'ed for the A3 interior. It will probably sound rather bad in the Octavia, certainly no better than cheapish aftermarket speakers would anyway. :)

I can get the full system for £40- from a breaker- all working, so I was thinking if I installed the head unit and just swapped the speaker over and wired in the amp then it would be fine! I reckon I will have it anyway, because even if they don't sound any good, it's still only £40 which wouldn't get much more than a set of component speakers anyway!

So do the fronts work and the sub?

the wiring for those bose systems is quite complicated, it will only work with the audi head unit as well, the sub has an amplifier built in which is for the rear speakers and this is fed from the head unit as a line level signal, you would need to seperate the wiring loom for the sub and amps from the audi loom and splice it to your skoda loom, requires balls of steel. my advice is dont bother or fit an aftermarket setup instead

Agree with all that! And once you've done all that hard work, it will sound wrong and be fairly unadjustable. :(

It just needs some bass. I fitted a flat subwoofer in the boot pocket and it sounds alright now.

it's not about the speakers, more about the "enclosure" (i.e. the doors themselves, etc) that's rubbish... - major loss in low(er) frequencies

it could be an improvement, although i would not expect it to be some epic change

anyway might well be worth the 40's

spot-on advice from yeti_man and teflon tom!

Personally, I think BOSE whole concept is just completely wrong and rather unnatural sounding anyway, although in a car it's such a compromise to start with that it is probably the way forward. However, they are pretty well tailored for specific vehicles and I don't think that this will be the way forward.

And as for their PA systems, I will happily kill anybody else who tries to tell me those crappy little compact BOSE setups are the best. They're not even remotely good.

i must say though, the bose speakers themselves are actually quite good quality, you could just swipe these and replace your oem skoda speakers, only slight difficulty is they are 2ohm if i recall which some head units dont like too much, but not impossible to overcome

+1

Stock audio system is not that bad when the doors holes are properly sealed with audio damper material.

Something like this;

Cheers for the replies guys.

The system does come with the Audi head unit so I can just get an adaptor for the loom and give it a try. If it's crap then il just put it on the bay of e and make the money back!

One of my friends had a mk1 tt with the bose setup and it sounded brilliant- just thought it could be a cheap little option.

I like the idea of the sound deadening- maybe just some foam would do the trick.

Also, where do u but the flat subs from? I like the idea of the bose because of the small size and didn't want a massive 12 inch sub in an enclosure in the boot cos I'm not 18 anymore! (No offence if anyone has one of these btw!) it's just that the other half would not really appreciate it so subtlety is the way forward for me!

Can't beat a bit of splicing and dicing and some heat shrink!

That's cool, as long as you realise that the head unit won't allow you to change the EQ settings from what it should be when installed in the A3 including specific heights and widths of each of the speakers and there placement to each other in the (very different) cabin, that includes things like material and upholstery differences also. Best of luck with it though. :)

Thanks for the advice. I realise it won't sound perfect but il definitely give it a go and see what it's like.

Do u know if the speakers are a direct fit or will I need to change the fittings on the ends of them or solder them? And also I'm guessing the cone will be deeper so will they fit in the door cards?

But then BOSE speakers are usually far from flat on their frequency responses, and the amplification is eq'd to suit the speakers. It may not work well without the full system. And 2ohm is going to be one hell of a current draw for most head units. Might not end well...

ah I think I should have been more specific, *some* of them are 2 ohm, which is made up by having 2x 4 ohm speakers in parallel, ie; a mid range driver and a tweeter which has it's own passive high pass filter circuit attached to the driver speaker, the mid range speaker has a 4 pin wiring connection, which is 2 wires from the amplifier, then the other 2 wires loop off it in parallel through the HPF circuit to the tweeter... There are loads of different types and setups depending on the exact car/spec/year.. And some of them use a full range coaxial speaker ( mid and tweeter in same speaker) for the rear speakers which has a passive crossover built in for the tweeter.

make sur that your drivers lock and mech are ok first lol bloody octavia door issues and throwing away sound proofing are painful :p i'd try the sound proof as either wat you need to do it if upgrding speakers :)

Even the best sound system that money can buy will sound ****ty if you don`t seal the door holes :drunk:

Also it is a good thing to stick one panel of dynomat to the inner wall of the door, vibration will be reduced to minimal.
