Trip to the dealers today....... And left a happy chappy

Featured Replies

Took the vRS in for its second year service today, no problems found so all good. Best thing was leaving with nothing to pay as per the "£99 for 3 years servicing" deal I picked up when bought the car back in 2011.

Had a brand new Citigo for the afternoon as a courtesy car. Quite impressed with it. Ride/handling were spot on and the gearshift was sweet. Performance was truly woeful and the stereo sounded nasty but this is to expected for the cheap price. Engine sounded very rattly at low revs tho.

Mentioned the "white corrosion spider of doom" which is affecting my wheels (they are of course the diamond cut / dark chrome variety). Was gearing myself up to plead my case for some warranty action but the dealer came straight back with "no problem sir we will order you 4 new wheels straight away free of charge and fit them next week if you like". Sweet! No suggestion of any cr@ppy refurb job.

Car felt much smoother and somehow refreshed on the way home but that may purely be psychological!

All in all very pleased with the customer service.

Good to know there are some dealers out there who will play fair.

Which dealer was this? Nice to hear some positive news :)

Carrs skoda, Indian queens Cornwall. I didn't even buy the car or servicing package from them so can't fault them really. They did a really good wash/wax too which was a bonus!

Looks like your being treated well by your dealer,I've forgotten what my car looks like as its been at my dealers for almost a week having new injectors and fuel pump fitted.

I had to have photos taken of my wheels before they would replace them but just got back from the stealers and they look great. Shame they scratched my paintwork somehow grrrr ! Also first service I had at the same time cost £140 which seemed a bit pricey So your 99 quid deal was a bargain.

terakris,

how did they get an 'Minor' Inspection sevice/oil and filter change to come out at £140.

Was it a Variable service and something special in the way of oil?

10,000 mile/12 months,

Normally £85-£100 is enough including VAT, oil, filter & plug, environmental charge, windscreen wash if you let them.

1 hour labour tops. VAT.

I presume the oil used is from a unicorn. Breakdown is;

Labour. 82.82

Oil filter. 7.60

Cleaner. 3.44

Sump plug. 1.63

Synta x 4 (I guess oil) . 42.76

Parts discount. -21.38

Plus vat = 140.24

I filled my windscreen before I left but they put a full bottle in the passenger foot well so not fussed about that really.

They have said they will fix the scratches though, no arguments so that's one less thing to worry about.

I have 8l of oil here, should have supplied my own ... Doh.

Interesting you mention Synta (VW?) oil. Three different Skoda dealers I've visited respectively "only use": Shell, Mobil and VW's own.

Oil charge is OK IMO. (apart from wrong to charge for 4 litres if its only 3.6 litres.)

Filter was cheap enough to counter that.

I would question £82.82, is that 1 hour labour? @ their hourly rate.

(parts discount, and then turn 30 minutes into 60 minutes is ridiculous)

Was that a first service voucher you had for your loyalty going to them?

Have they done a washed and vac onthe car and charged you for the time?. Robbing Barstewards

I would get the engine hot up to 80 degrees and then dip it and check the oil level.

It is 3.6 litres of oil,

not 3.9 or 4 litres & at £10.69 a litre & vat, so £12.82 a litre,

they need to give you some for topping up,

or charge for only 3.6 litres.

First service and £140 that's bloody cheap ! I paid 230 for first service so count yourself lucky

It is a only Oil and filter change, fluid top up and Visual Inspection service.

Next one is £177- £220 ish with Pollen Filter. Bit more checking. & noted on a Palm Top.

Then maybe £200- £250 ish at 3 years with Brake Fluid change.

No idea how it works out that much. I was quoted that when I arrived so not like it was extra time. Again no idea what the discount is either. It is where I purchase the car from though.

As for the brand of oil well it used to be castrol I think so maybe they changed. They told me its whatever vw tell them so changes all the time.

Looks strange that the discount is 50% of the oil price, and it would be interesting to see how the labour breaks down as an hourly rate (its does not appear possible to break it down in anything other than 1 or 2 hours - unless it £165.64 per hour and they completed the job in 30 mins!!!!.

Price breakdown for the 2nd service was:

Service cost £96.27

Oil Castrol pd 5w40 £32

Oil filter £9.77

Pollen filter £ 13.77

Sump-plug £1.63

VAT £30.57

Total £183.41

Obviously nil to pay from me as per service plan. Was offered an air con service for extra charge but I didn't bother this time, will get it done next time around if I bother to keep the car that long.

Your service cost in the UK is ridiculously cheap..

In Sweden they charge £90 for 3,6liters of Castrol Edge professional 5W-30 and the first service (if you are on variable) costs £380

I can back up what Snowman says...

However, there are ways around that ;-).
