cheap runabout for wife

Featured Replies

Need a cheap car for the missus. Really i have got about

veedub polo??????

I would say a mk4 Fiesta. A half decent spec (central locking/elec windows/power steering) one would be about

Skoda Felicia, would get a late full spec one for that money. Dont often go wrong and parts are cheap as.

Not as new as you like im sure but I bought this N plate 11,000 mile minter for

A felicia would be quite a decent buy if you find a good one.

I'm a big fan of nissan micras for cheap runabouts as well.

Plenty to choose from and they are nice solid cars to drive.

I was thinking of maybe a felicia but was not sure how good they are to tell the truth.

Only want a small engined one though. What are the various engine sizes available as it must be economical obviously.

Well a felicia is a pretty dull car but they seem to be well put together and the owners like them. You also get a lot more car for your money. I think it's a choice of 1.3 and 1.4 engines but they are in low insurance groups.

The Felicia is only available in 1.3, 1.6 (By far the most refined - VW engine) and 1.9D. I'd definitely recommend the 1.6 having owned one myself. A cracking car for the money.

If not then I'd recommend the Mk 4 Fiesta also. Bang for buck they seem unbeatable.

Another vote for the Nissan Micra. Extremely reliable and each of our fleet covered 100k (in a couple of years) problem free :D

Chris

another vote for the Micra too! They last for ages and are fairly easy to repair/fix. Dont be put of but high mileage ones though.

I've seen R-S reg go for

Ok, i need some advice.

A colleague of mine is selling an M reg Nissan micra 1.3 Lx.

12 months mot, 6 months tax

100k miles

new clutch, some brake work done for mot, also some welding on a sill.

Has a dent in the wing from someone in a supermarket carpark. also has a wing mirror missing.

Now i haven't seen the car yet but i have been informed by another colleague that it is not a bad car for its age.

The guy is asking

Basically just about anything with 12 months MOT and 6 months TAX is worth

Should i be concerned about the welding???

If it needed anymore doing is it expensive??

Any sort of noises i should be listening for from the engine?

Need a cheap car for the missus.

What, as a part exchange? :)

Sorry couldn't resist....sounds like a good deal.....I'll go away now

The welding will have been done to make it pass the MOT so wouldn't worry about it, as it would have failed the MOT (again) if the welding had not been done to a satisfactory standard.

Also, if you're after a cheap runabout you can probably pick up cars way cheaper than that, and chuck it away when the MOT runs out.

Before the Furby I never used to spend serious money on a car - I've spent more on add-on bits and pieces on this car than on repairs for previous ones

If only life was so simple :D

How often should the Cam belt be changed on something like a micra??

I have asked the guy who is selling it if it has been done and he thinks so but is getting back to me. If it has not been done i may not bother with it as i would imagine it would be an expensive job seing as the car is only
