Mk1 Octavia vRS project

Featured Replies

Picked up my new Octavia vRS last Monday after selling my previous vRS estate (big mistake) to fund a Clio 172 Cup (screwed bottom end on journey home from collecting), bought another normal 172 with a 'broken driveshaft' which turned out to be a fudged gearbox. Fixed that and it still needed another £600 spending on cambelt and dephaser pulley so cut my losses and sold that to buy my Octavia and I'm so much happier in this and slapped myself for selling my last one haha!

So this one was up for the right price on here, so a quick trip to Birmingham and I was driving it back. Had it in the garage Monday just gone and had a few bits sorted on it:

Coolant temp sensor

New stat

New drivers window regulator

New ball joint

New arb bushes

Still needs to go back for tracking and the towbar cutting off but I'll get that done soon.

The car drives completely different now, was all over the road at first before the work, now drives lovely although the dampers are worn out so suspension feels a little spongey but that will be getting changed, along with 4 new tyres. The interior is disgusting and brown so really needs a clean with the RugDoctor, which hopefully I will get done Sunday if it doesn't rain. Will also be getting rid of the white carpet for a Anthracite/Black carpet as I think it looks much better.

After having stat and coolant temp sensor done with genuine bits, the management light has decided to come on yet again so not sure what's causing that this time?

The only pics I have are a couple from the for sale ad so here they are (will get it cleaned thoroughly this weekend if the weather is any good)...

nice looking car, do the grill in gloss black and it will be pretty much the same as mine at the front :)

Cheers bud, the grille will be going gloss black and the horrible fly eyes will be coming off the headlights and will put some Lamin-X on them.

Ordered a cheap recirc valve today which will be here tomorrow so seeing as I'm on half day at work I'll get it fitted tomorrow afternoon.

Car feels awful before hitting boost and I think that's down to the horrible drilled airbox so will find another replacement to see if changing it stops it feeling so flat.

Found the exhaust system I want so when I'm back from holiday in May that will get ordered and then have the tailpipe pipe work extended as its made for a mk4 Golf. Will be looking to fit a 2.5" downpipe at the same time too.

I have a full closure alarm on the car at the minute which means the central locking no longer works off the key but from a separate fob which is pretty annoying. Anyone know if I can somehow disable the alarm as I'd rather just have it all running off the key?

You should get a cai, makes a lovely sound boosting up and dumping lol

Sent from my Galaxy S3, not a Crapple!

Couldn't have an induction kit that would make it even worst in low revs lol. Standard airbox is more than capable for most applicaitons in my opinion.

Got home from work at 12:30 to find my new dv had turned up. Fantastic service so got it fitted with the yellow spring it came with. May be a bit strong for a gauge indicated 20psi as there is a bit of flutter when dumping so will put the red spring in tomorrow.

Been a while since I updated this! A few things have gone on since the last update.

Got it washed and took some clean photos a month or so ago:

Couple of days after the pics were taken I had a pair of Federal ZIEX 914's fitted to the front, will get a couple more for the back end of May. Exceptional tyres in wet and dry conditions, very happy with them and recommend them!!

The seats were absolutely disgusting, so I decided to hire a RugDoctor and give them a quick going over. These are the results:

Still not perfect but it was cold so will redo them when it's baking hot so they dry quicker and will do the carpet as well as that's disgusting!

I was missing the tray from under the stereo so went to the scrappy and took one out of a Bora thinking it would fit straight in.....it didn't :( So after a lot of patience and cutting/smoothing of the plastic ridges on the the underside it was in!!!

The stereo fitment needs improving but I will sort that when I can be bothered!

2 weeks ago I hit a rabbit and it destroyed my LCR splitter:

Still not got a new one yet, the front end looks naked without it!!

Last weekend I decided to wrap my grille, I also took the wrap off the bumper side grilles that the previous owner put on and I think it looks much better:

Will order a new splitter end of May, got a cat-back stainless exhaust coming this week that I picked up for the bargain price of £100 delivered, can't wait to get that fitted! Then off to Paphos in Cyprus next Sunday for a week for a bit of a break :)

looking good  your right about splitter get it back soon!! have fun

oh and them seats :envy:

My exhaust turned up yesterday and was fitted today along with 2 new lower arms. Exhaust is ok, bit on the quiet side though so will see about getting a downpipe after holiday.

What make of exhaust is that?

  • Author

Cobra back box with isotta tailpipes bud.

Cool :)

Seats come up wicked, and is that valve a 006 ? :)

  • Author

Cheers dude, seats are a huge improvement but still not perfect and the headlining is absolutely gross as well due to previous owners smoking, so will get that out and wash it in the summer as well!

That valve is an eBay special but I'm back on the standard one now, the rubber seal on the bottom of the piston has gone missing again so I guess it's been eaten by the turbo?

Got swmbo to have a drive in my car today so I could hear his the exhaust sounded. The videos didn't capture the sound well at all but has highlighted that I definitely need a VR6 clutch and G60 flywheel as you can hear how long it holds onto the revs at gear change and it does my head in!

Any links to the exhaust? Sounds nice but not too chavvy loud, just what I'd like

  • Author

Thanks bud, unfortunately I don't have any links to it as I bought it second hand from eBay. Inside the car you can't really tell it has an aftermarket exhaust on it.
