Thanks a lot

May I ask why people vent this to air.

I have looked into fitting a catch can to my Ibiza Cupra tdi for a while and have spoke to verious people

From what I have seen everyone running catch can on there Cupra tdis tend to be the high powers people 220bhp upwards.

But they all run there's back to the intake.

So in other words run from the crankcase to the catch can then back to there intake.

From what I know about engines that would also be the safest bet but why don't any one on there fabias run there's back to the intake and vent it to atmospher

If you run it back to the intake isn't that defeating the object of taking it out of the intake in the first place ?

No because its going through the catch tank highlight the name the catch tank collects it

Why bother? Just **** it off to atmosphere, no catch can.

Because that causing mess plus the pd engine breathes quite hevey so if the filter gets blocked and it carnt breath fully ur asking for problums

There is no filter, just a pipe, place it somewhere where it won't make a mess!

I just vent mine to atmosphere.

Catch can in 19mm is like crazy money from saiko michi or whatever the hell its called

My ccv cost me £9.99 for hose and a £1 for a sprite bottle (cap fits intake perfectly) and a jubilee from the shed

have you just got the pipe going straight into the sprite bottle? Or into the bottle and out somewhere ?

Mine goes to atmos down by the subframe. I don't think the PD crankcase vents massive quantities. Never had an issue with seeing spots or anything on the back of the car. I would be curious to know from someone who has a catch can on a PD how many thousands of miles it takes to fill a catch-can, to say what you'd get in a coke can - 330ml. I reckon 5,000 miles+ personally.

No i just used the lid from the bottle it works as a cap to fit the redundant hole in the air intake

My hose goes straight from top of crankcase down to the subframe

Oh I see, I'm just going to run the pipe into a bottle for now and going to order a catch can next week, just for the looks really !

as I say I'm going to put it into a bottle untill I get a catch can and I do quite a few miles a week so will keep you updated on what comes out..

thanks for that ! I was a bit unsure as I haven't seen any pictures of anyone with it running into a bottle they've all just said they run it down by the console bush /.

Did you see any difference engine wise? Running smoother etc....

I think what comes out is 99% gas, 1% liquid, so in reality, its really basically "smoke"

No but its nice to know no oily vapour is getting sucked into the intake side of the turbo and onto the intercooler pipework, which when combined with the exhaust gases from the egr valve creates black gunk that heads straigjt into the intake manifold

+1, HGV's and buses vent to atmosphere

I had a catch can fitted for about 600 miles. I decided to remove it when I found that there was already ~100ml of water plus about 30-40ml of oily emulsion inside. This was a few months ago when it was cold out and I did a lot of short trips, 6 miles to work and back. For that reason I took it out and vented to atmosphere. I have no problems with steam on the windows etc.

Another reason I took it out - if I forget about it for 2k miles or so I would assume the can would fill up, forcing liquid through the outlet filter and creating back-pressure to the crank case if said outlet were to clog up.

An even worse thought, imagine if said outlet was piped back into the intake!
