Dance radio unit in 08reg?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I just wonder. I have dance radio in my 08reg elegance Octavia. I think it is a 2008 model.

I also have aux connection in arm rest box but it is not working. Is it by fault or my radio does not support it. But it has cd changer in the boot.

Also in 2008, did they fit basic dance radio unit in elegance models?

Where can I find informations which radios were originally fitted in which cars- octavias

Thanks

My '57 Elegance had a Stream-MP3. As far as I know, Dance wasn't fitted to Octavias. Sounds like it's been swapped out at some point.

The Elegance would have had a Stream MP3 as standard at that stage, but loads of Stream MP3s packed up and were replaced under warranty. When the Stream was no longer available new then dealers began replacing them with the Dance unit instead.

Skoda UK offered a Dance for mine under warranty after my original Stream MP3 started giving trouble, but I decided against it and bought a secondhand Stream MP3 as the Dance had a few less functions.

I will post a picture of my radio at weekend. Do you know how to check what was fitted in there when manufactured? Asked dealers-didn't know, asked skoda uk- didnt know. I sent email to Cz see if I get reply.

So I can replace my Dance for stream mp3 with no problem. Will affect my warranty?

What extra functions Stream mp3 has, obviously mp3 I guess. I have aux in arm rest box. Will I able to use it?

This VAG website allows you to input the VIN and see exactly which options were fitted to your car. Not just those codes on the sticker in the boot/service book, but every code.

It will cost you a fiver for the privilege. Seems to me a dealer must also have access to the same database - if they could be bothered.

If I remember correctly the front facia of the Dance was slightly smaller than that on the Stream so dealers also replaced the plastic trim panel around the radio with a modified part that had a smaller aperture. If you wanted to go back to a Stream MP3 you may well have to swap this trim panel back to an original type to get the larger Stream unit to fit. Otherwise it should be pretty much plug & play really.

The Stream MP3 will play MP3 discs, the Aux in socket will work and it also will use the display in conjunction with the rear parking sensors and show the climate control temp settings. I can't see it affecting your warranty and you would only be putting back what was probably there originally after all.

The Dance, as a unit, definitely supports aux in. I know this as I have one in my Roomy, though no experience of units in Octy.

When you say it doesn't work, are you able to get the aux-in option to show on the head-unit? I don't want to offend or to perform any egg sucking tuition, but it's not obvious how to bring it up if you don't have the manual & doesn't auto-switch if you plug in source to aux.

If you're still with me & haven't started typing: "I'm not f***##g stupid" in angry reply, on my unit it takes 2 presses of 'CD' to bring up aux (& has a menu option to adjust aux-in vol. level).

I studied manual and even I get skoda uk email me another one just in case my was "out of date".

I was looking at menu to turn Aux on, but there is no option, even there is nothing at all about aux.

Is there any other way how to switch aux on instead of radio menu?

Manual says exactly as you say. Repeat press of CD button. If I do that, cds from cd changer will show up. And if I remove all CDs and then double press, it still shows changer and in every slot no disk, our something like that.

If do more then double press, nothing happens.

So what happends when you press 'Menu'?

Mine varies according to what mode I'm in (FM, CD, etc.) but it brings up 'Screen Set' & the common denominator in all variations is that the top/right button button is always marked 'Aux' - pressing this toggles aux on & off. If it's not set to 'aux on' here, then you won't see the aux option when you press 'CD'

I'd initially wondered whether the CD changer 'robs' the aux function but I've just checked mine and, whilst playing a CD, Pressing the 'CD' button cycles through CDC (even though I don't have one fitted), then aux, then back to CD.

To be honest I didn't notice or didnt pay attention if I am accessing menu from cd or fm. I will try it tomorrow as I am away with work today. What I will do is I will record a video as I am flicking throu radio menu, but I am pretty sure aux option is missing.
