Clutch pedal weight?

Featured Replies

Skipping between my petrol engined Leon and the Octavia which is a TDi the clutch is way heavier in the Skoda. Is this because of a different mechanism? Is it possible I have got the wrong clutch?

Having had a mkI Octy TDi and my wife has a 1.6 petrol Leon, you have the right clutch, it is way heavier, my wife always used to complain when she drove my car.

I have had a few VAG cars now and when brand new the clutch is nice and easy to use, as the mileage gets higher and higher the clutch pedal gets harder to press, this is especially noticeable when I get the same car as a courtesy car with much less mileage on it.

Was wondering if someone had removed the dmf and was heavier cos of that. Done 122k so unlikely to be on original clutch I suppose

If the dmf had been removed and a smf installed then the pedal would be alot lighter or thats the usual case

I have never had a clutch replaced in any of my cars, all do over 130,000 in three years, so it could well be original hence it being heavy.

Comparing our Leon to the old Octavia the clutch was always heavier in the diesel Octy compared to the petrol leon from when we got them (the Leon was brand new and the Octy was a year old with 7k on the clock).

I found the original ford focus was the same, I regularly drove a 1.8 petrol and a TDCi, both the same age, and the clutch was noticeably heavier on the diesel.

Thanks for the input. I think she prefers driving the seat anyway!she reckons its a lot smaller!

My wife says that too, even though the cars are parked next to each other and are obviously pretty much the same size. Apparently it's because its bigger on the inside...
