Fabia comparison. 1.4 16v vs. 1.9 TDi

Featured Replies

I bought a new estate last year, the Elegance with all the bits - cruise, heated sets etc. Chose the 1.4/100 after much deliberation - didn't think the 2.0 petrol was worth the extra cost, insurance and fuel consumption.

I considered the estate. The extra space would have been useful, but only on rare occasions. I was a bit concerned it could be liable to break-ins.

I got my first Fabia 3 years ago to replace a Golf GTI II. I tried a 1.4/75 but it didn't have the low-down grunt. I didn't try a 1.4/100, and the VRS was not available then. I got a new Fabia 2.0 a couple of months ago, choosing it over the VRS. It was a close call, but living in a small mews in a quiet area, I didn't want the taka-taka echoing round the neighbours' houses nor the particulates hanging around.

My insurance is

I bought the pd100 combi after a lot of research, and as a newcomer to Skoda ... a fair amount of trepidation!

One month into ownership of my 4yr old comfort I couldn't be more pleased with it.

We are just back from 1000 mile trip to the furthest reaches of Cornwall and back, all bar 250 miles were at 95-105mph with the aircon switched on fully loaded.

I managed 54mpg average over the week, now that ain't bad :)

My mpg in the old car averaged 34.9 over 30,000 miles and in the new car is 35.3 after 3000 miles. I guess the 1.4/100 could get another 3-5 on that.

I'm getting just over 40 overall, mostly short city runs with an occasional motorway blast, often with a heavy load.
