Shouldn't my 53 plate octet Vrs have an alarm?

no dont think so, well it probably should, but i dont think they were factory fit, just the immob.

Nope only ever fitted with Immo unless species when new for silly money !!

my last one had a toad ai606 alarm, a great unit, had it on a number of my cars and would recommend.

ah right. What a con. Lol, so Clifford's aren't as good as people make out then? I'll have a look at some toads then. . prefer to pay for a good unit.
