Cheap PD Tuning Box - Info

Featured Replies

There is a lot of talk on here about the cheap PD Tuning boxes sold on Ebay etc so I thought I'd get hold of one and have a look inside to see what all the fuss was about. I had a rough idea of what we'd be looking at but didn't know the component values.

I've made up a schematic which should help you construct one yourself for around

Probably what I didn't explain very well was that this is the adjustable variety.

There is a small hole in the top of the enclosure which accepts the screw of the variable pot.

I don't see any pictures... :(

Links still don't work. I think you've got an extra dot after the .com, but i've tried without that and they still don't work...

I've edited the links and they work fine, but then I can see the pictures too.

I'll upload it for you.

I can see them now, although now i'm on my work's PC.

So basically, you've got a 1K to 1K2 variable resistance in parallel with whatever is on the other end of the plug. It would be interesting to see what it actually connects up to, and what the resistance of that is.

It connects to the fuel temp sender which is a thermister.

I might be wrong but I think it's a theory or idea that came from the US. I've done a bit of reading about it on one of their forums.

Interestingly the US guys start at 1k and work their way down to about 600R to 800R. Although that is on the TDi unit not the PD.

It would be nice to know the actual range of the thermistor (both temp and resistance). I'm just curios to see what the resistance would normally be, and what this mod will change it to.

Simply put a meter across the terminals of the car at various states.

Do you have a large version of that schematic, I have bad eyesight :(

Just close one eye and squint a bit with the other and you'll be fine

I think I'll take it down now though :D
