Is the DMF going? Plus other niggles.

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Unfortunately or fortunately I haven't had my vrs long so thankfully It's under a years Skoda warrenty!

Since I sorted out the DRL lights being plugged into the MAF (draining oomph) the car has some noticeable niggles.

On idle the car vibrates or rocks a little, engine note sounds different when I dip the clutch. If this is the DMF how can I tell, how long until it goes and will the garage replace it under warrenty?

Second thing: Iffy throttle, sometimes it revs up to 1500 when started and at the lights. Stops when I blip throttle.

Third thing: Not sure if MAF is still dodgy after the previous owner wired the lights into it, still feels down on power.

Fourth thing: Brake pedal feels sticky. It returns to position but feels like you've put your foot in chewing gum.

Any help much appreciated as I haven't had the car long!

DMF - sounds like yeah, depends how bad it is but could be worth getting Skoda to take a look.

Revs - that'll be the potentiometer or whatever it's called inside the pedal, it can be DIY'd but its under warranty so get it replaced. The sticky pedal will be related to this too I'd imagine.

MAF - you could try unplugging the MAF and seeing if the car feels any different although there's varied opinions on this, best method would be to run some logs with VagCom.

Excellent, thanks for the concise info! Will get it all looked at when I have a mo.

Just wondered, how does the pentometer affect the brake pedal too?

Sorry, I read it as accelerator sticky! I which case not sure on the brake pedal issue :(

I'm sure they are pretty common as I have/ have had all of those

Some of which I'd have been worrying about for 20k at least if they were real issues, so they probably aren't.

(DMF clatter on idle). In fact I'm more bothered by difficulty engaging sometimes, probably not so much clutch wear as needing the gear adjustment which I will do given a fine day and half a chance.

-Bleed brakes, may improve the brake feel, they might need new seals or something but mine isn't on the floor, and brakes safely, passes MOT so its fine for now

-Sticky accelerator on idle, mine was fixed with a tiny bit of wd40 spray. Take if to dealers, they might just do the same and tell you they replaced it lol

-Down on power, not really had this per-se as mine has never really lacked power, well I have had something sounding like pre-ignition at about half load (can't really hear when fully loading the pedal) but I am sure it could be sensor related. I must do a scan and make sure to use the best fuel. In your case just take to the dealer

Awesome, I shall make sure to rape the dealer with the warranty then!
