100 w bulbs

Featured Replies

got led sidelights that look great. not so easy to match with dipped bulbs. I am buying loads of different sets to try and. get a col match. I also see there are 100w bulbs. will they blow, melt or damage anything. I hear led main bulbs look good but will end you in a ditch....

General opinion on 100w bulbs is probably not, with a canbus system and plastic lenses that will discolour in time. I don't know if anyone has, but I wouldn't. I went for a HID kit. There are lots of good threads on here covering this.

Not totally sure, but I think the 100w bulbs are illegal. Perhaps try some Ring 120% bulbs? These won't blow any fuses or wiring

100W bulbs are for off road/show use only. They are illegal for road use.

You'll destroy your headlights with 100w bulbs in the low beam.

Some people claim they get away with 100w bulbs in main beam (as it's not on all the time) but I'd never risk it.

as are the hid kits without self levelling and washers from what I read. anyone been pulled for the hid? I also don't fancy swapping come mot time.

I am right in saying led are bad for dip and main aren't i? I have led in the sides and number plates and the light is great

I have the Ring 120% bulbs, and they seem fine, definately a bit whiter than the originals and match the LED DRL's well.

I ruined a Cibie metal reflector on the bike using a 100w halogen bulb. I definitely would not use one in a plastic headlamp casing. Plus the power demand is about 40% greater. Does anyone know what gauge wiring is used on the H/L circuit?

And yes they certainly were illegal and pretty short lived.

you will never match the colour of the led side lights with halogens unless you get ones such as philips diamond bright which are dangerously bad.

Halogen bulbs do not "burn" at a high enough colour temperature to get close enough to the LED. Halogens are about 3k where as white is 4.3k

The ring 120% bulb is a very good bulb but you wont match the led's

The wiring isn't designed to take it, nor are the plastic lenses.

You can also get 80w h7.

I'd certainly not put 100W bulbs in dipped beam.

H1 full beam are going to come down to the bulb type and if they emit UV or not.

And anyway, why not fit some proper HID's?

The higher the temperature, the more blue they become, and the more light you'll lose, and the greater the risk of you being stopped for them. Best balance for the maximum amount of light output is 4300k.

Added a bit ;)

Saw one the other day with some very blue lights, really didn't light the road up at all.

well its prob arriving this morning. stupid q, but if I fit and don't like the colour can I just replace the bulb colour. they are not specific to a particular kit/ballast etc are they?

Don't think so.

well, my 'viphid' set arrived. it took 30 mins to fit and I found if I cut a small piece off the headlamp assembly, the whole unit etc would fit inside the headlamp unit- a bonus as it means its totally reversible. the 6000k is paperwhite with no blue hint I can see, although I only ran them for 10 sec in the day. it could be that when they warm up at night they take on a bit more blue. no canbus errors, except when the wires were the wrong way round (I think red to purple was right in the end)

for now- very happy. not bad for £34 inc delivery from the bay

do the ballasts get hot? I could check, but as they are now inside the unit, I would have to run for an hour to warm up, then disassemble everything. do they get hotter than a halogen bulb would've done? don't want to damage things....

They are fine inside the headlamp unit. Dont worry...Honest!!

cool, I like that it is reversible if I keep it like this, rather than drilling holes in the unit etc

Mine have been in the H/L unit for two years now. Absolutely no modifications required.
