1.8 20vT dump valve not opening

Featured Replies

Hi,

My dump valve doesn't seem to be dumping. I get a lovely chatter sound when I close the throttle, but surely it will reduce the life of the turbo. Is the valve likely gummed up or is it likely to be whatever valve which operates the vacuum to actuate the dump valve (if you see what I mean)? I have also noticed the bottom crank breather pipe is split, but I'm guessing the 2 aren't related? Or are they?

Thanks

Olly.

is it the standard valve ?

Sounds like the DV seal is goosed. The bottom crank breather pipe is part of the PCV system not the boost system.

The dv should run silent unless u have some form of induction kit fitted then u will here the recirc noise,if u have a vent to air dv its no good for this engine it must be closed loop like the standard one.It sounds like a split diafram in the dv. As for a split breather it can cause boost surge depending on which one it is ive just replaced mine with a three piece silicone kit from the top of the engine down to the block and the inlet manifold and no more boost issues.

Thanks guys. It's an OEM DV from the look of it. I used to have a Seat Leon Cupra R and it looks the same as the one on that. Annoyingly I swapped the Leon one for a Forge DV and hung onto the OEM part for years... Only binned it a couple of years ago. Typical! I have a new breather hose set on the way and I'll get a DV.

I bought this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/380446105058

Looks like a clone of the Forge. It arrived this morning and I fitted it a few hours ago. That was definitely the problem. No more swooshy sound on throttle closure and no more me having to ease off the throttle gently when possible to preserve the turbo bearings smile.gif

Thanks for your help guys.

I have a breather hose kit too which I'll fit at the weekend if the weather isn't too dismal.

The old D/V failure was probably diaphragm as when I suck through the actuator pipe I can't build up any vacuum - air leaking in from the "side" pipe.
