pd160 really needed?

Featured Replies

Ive recently bought my vrs and want to get it mapped. Heard you really need the pd160 intake on it. So got a hold of one and had it fitted. Just waiting for an opening for my car to get mapped. Since having it in my mpg has dropped by 10!! And performance seens a bit duller. Any suggestions guys?? Use are the experts...

Cheers,

Mick.

No way would it cause any negative issues. Its questionable how much it improves things, but there is no reason for it to hinder.

Somethign has eithe rbeen knocked or its a complete coincidence that your MAF or somethign was on tis last legs.

Didn't have any problems after fitting mine, didn't have much in the way of benefits either tbh! Felt a little bit faster but not much.

I bought one and put it on before i had my car mapped, it made no difference to the mpg or performance (not noticeable to me anyway) I then had the car mapped drove round with it for a few weeks then decided the money is better in my bank account rather than a piece of plastic under the bonnet. Took it off and went back to standard, again i noticed no difference to performance, just my bank balance looked a little better.

Whilst on topic, would the OP be able to see if the MAF show up on diagnostic checks? or doesn't this not necessarily throw a failure on vagcom ?

I read an article about someone who did test with the 1.9 engine with both the small and large intake pipes, the conclusion was that with it standard and not mapped it reduces performance slightly as the engine wasn't set up for the larger pipe, with a map however it might benefit slightly but as previous posts have said it would be only marginal at best and not really worth the £80+ price tag
