I accidentally bought a Rapid

Featured Replies

I've seen a Rapid taxi in red, which looked smart. The yellow looks silly imo but the light blue is a pleasant colour. I actually like that weird, qwerky green colour but I thought it was just too radical :giggle:

That's such a rare occurrence, that it wouldn't concern me at all. If I've been in a heavy crash and the car is on fire I'm not going to mess around trying to disconnect the battery, using tools I do

  • So let me get this straight, are you saying that if one of us was to buy a brand new car with the intention of selling it on after three years we should consider at the point of purchase how much it m

  • I spot some forum members who have not found the ignore function yet. Has been working well for me on this thread so far. Shame RapidRonnie's thread about his new car got sent way off topic though.

I don't feel comparing the full list price of the Rapid to the VAT free price of the Roomster is relevant - the price paid is what matters and I am sure there is more room for negotiation on the Rapid's list price than the Roomster's already discounted price. I do think a readjusting of the Rapid's list price in the UK though would help to drum up some sales but it is not 30% overpriced for the UK market. I think even a 10% reduction would make it look pretty decent value.

To those that have asked I am very happy with the car so far. It has exceeded my expectations (which were perhaps lowered a bit by all the negativity here!)

I still keep looking at a Rapid DSG in Sprint Yellow...

Do it!

Sprint yellow, sunset glass with the black "Ray" wheels in the back of the brochure would look pretty cool.

Pretty sure there's not going to be a Rapid RS, but I reckon they will do a sport version along the lines of the Citigo Sport with sports seats, 3 spoke wheel, big wheels, spoilers e.t.c.

Are you still getting mid-50s MPG out of it? Have you done a brim-to-brim calculation to confirm what the computer says you're getting? The calculations I've done on long-term cost saving require the book figures to be within 10% of reality (I always got bang on the book figures for my Fiesta and do so now for my 1.4 MPI Fabia so I think it's reasonable to assume my driving style is within the parameters set for the tests that produce the official MPG figures)

Do it!

I've got Lee from Preston Motors on my case. :D

What I find quite amazing is that allegedly Skoda car buyers are repeatedly posting on how high prices are justified. Are you paying for your cars? I do, and the extortionate SUK pricing against the background of other countries is to me another classic example of ripoff Britain. Do you really enjoy spending more money than needed? Wouldn't it be better to get the same car at a lower price and give the difference to a charity of your choice?

J400uk, as I explained earlier, try looking at the new Roomster, not old one when comparing platforms, the differences Roomster to Rapid are half a version (not even one version) of new Polo in front, so a quarter version in total ;). VW Golf has long been known as an example of the biggest ripoff in UK VW car range, though I think Rapid topped that. As a prospective Skoda customer, you should be interested in not being ripped off, shouldn't you?

Yes, it is clear more people will like Rapid shape, I would not mind it too given the right engine as I still think Mk1 Octy was the king of family cars, but Rapid is not worth 30% extra premium over Roomster and looking at the slow sales, I am not alone in thinking this. I made this point once in this thread, why not just accept it and stop writing factless posts full of personal hatred, then complain that the thread goes off topic.

Finally, all these suggestions to haggle, perhaps you are very successfull hagglers but as one or two other posters in this thread already mentioned, I find that salesmen are reluctant to offer 10%+ discounts to me on factory orders, and therefore prefer transparent pricing, or 0% VAT offer. Then I can simply pick the options and place the order without much haggling. As most people would prefer.

2.0CR 125bhp+ Rapid in either silver or the new blue (gorgeous) for me please, and I will happily pay even 15% over the Czech price, just not the 25%-43% theft :)

We get the HTP here in Malta where smaller engined cars are more popular due to the short distances ... And I looked at an Elegance too ... still don't like the feel of the cheap plastics .. but overall I'd have a Rapid anytime , car is big and spacious and I like the design but as most said , when upgrading from a Fabia or Roomster it's a big upgrade but when going from an Octy 2 to a Rapid you can suddenly feel that the Rapid was built at a budget price ...

Didn't know there was an HTP in the country! That engine has been further improved from the version in the Fabia.

To be fair you have just tested the cheapest version. The stereo is decent enough with more speakers on SE upwards.

All the doors on mine shut with a "posher" noise and feel than on my Roomster and mine came with two proper flip keys.

The car sits between the Fabia and Octavia on price and size and thus quality too. I think any Fabia driver would be happy with the comparison, Octavia drivers less so, although there are one or two things I think are better on the Rapid than the Octy2 as well.

There was a yellow one that Leon found - some reporter had it. Looke smart.

I wanted a race blue one but wasn't willing to wait 12 weeks so plumped for an ordered car with good options.

Going to order the spoiler once back from holiday! :)

You'd have been waiting more than 12 weeks Ad, don't think race blue is available on the Rapid! Rallye Green is though.

Have you seen the spoilers on superskoda?

There are too and the slightly more subtle one looks good IMO.

Just fancied a colour change having had a white car previously, I love white just a pain to clean all the time.

Hmm, thought I saw race blue. Will check my eyes and the brochure :)

I think in "real life" you will struggle to get average 55MPG or even ever. I did expect this though, I don't think there are many modern cars which do the average in real driving conditions.

I am not disappointed though - the engine is so much better than the one in my Roomster that any improvement in fuel economy is a bonus. Generally I seem to be getting 7-10MPG better from the Rapid than the Roomster.

I'd say expect the following from the 86PS TSI:

Short trips into town: 35-40MPG

B road cruising 50-60: 45-50MPG

Motorways 40-45MPG

Thats pretty good actually given the size of the vehicle. Things should only get better as you pile on some more mileage. Im guessing its fairly short in the gearing as the economy slides a fair bit from the B road cruising compared to the motorway runs?

Despite my earlier 'negative' vibe on the car im warming to the idea of it (or perhaps a Seat Toledo) replacing our second car (a 1.6TDCI Fiesta) in the mid term. It'll be interesting to see if there are any further reductions and campaigns in the coming months - I'll be watching with interest.

Pacific Blue, Denim Blue (met) and Petrol Blue (met) but not Race Blue - although one of blue is "bright".

Didn't think it was geared that short but will get back to you on that - i haven't actually done much motorway/dual carriageway stuff yet apart from the drive home when picking it up. Should also say that was at an indicated 80ish so might be better at 70.

Id be very interested to know what that little engine is turning at around the national limit as the 1.2TSi would be my preffered choice (second car is used for too many short trips for the diesels DPF to cope with possibly). Thanks

Seen a 3+ inch or so high one I don't like and a 1-2 inch lip spoiler direct from Skoda that looks smart.

£130 + painting costs.

I'll let you know what mine does at 70mph when I'm back as its the 6 speed box. Probably drops rpm by 500 or so.

Toledo looks like a nice car, just prefer the Skoda brand now having had both marques.

I suppose the only way I'll know for sure is to get a minimum 24hr demo so I can gauge what it's like to live with - my hopes aren't high on that though, last year when I was seriously considering a 4 year old Octy I contacted both Mitchell and Lightcliffe's (Chester/Warrington respectively) and they didn't even do me the courtesy of responding, not even to say 'no'. So I didn't buy and concentrated on topping up an isa instead!

Car dealers expecting you to buy 'blind' or off the back of a useless 30 mins test drive seems defacto!

I've just had a look, and according to our friendly meerkat man I could get a fully comp policy on a SE 86PS rapid for only £60 more than I've been quoted on my 52 plate Fabia. Outrageous.

Sounds about right to be honest! Car age doesn't tend to affect car insurance prices much, if anything older models cost more to insure.

Easier to steal maybe? My Fabia's worth about £1k at the very most I would have thought which means I'm unlikely to be able to trade it in towards the cost of a newer car.... Rock, meet hard place :-

I did

Don't see why they wouldn't take your Fabia as a part ex though?

I didn't even get a test drive, made them sweat to sell me one before the end of march to

A: get the sales quota

And

B: get a damned good saving

I did

Perhaps it's just the pessimist in me, I came within a hairs width of buying a Jetta last year (when I had been looking at Octys) but the dealer bluntly stated he simply wasn't interested in it and would only give me £450 so I walked away and saved the cash instead!
