Featured Replies

I dunno witch to do both around the same price...witch one wud give the most benefit ??

I have always wonderd that to behonest removal I the back box would loose most waight through hhahahhhahahha

I would go for the decat :)

Just bear in mind the changes to the mot requirements, conspicuous absence of the cat may be a fail.

Eh?

(to make a slightly more helpful reply)........

I thought if any changes to mot its only referring to cars which were manufactured on and after the new regs were put in place. If there were any changes which affect our cars im sure many would be screaming about it over the forums well before it was put in place (like the new HID regs).

I don't think so, I think it applies to all vehicles, if they are supposed to have the equipment fitted and require an MoT, see here and here.

I visited quite a few custom exhaust shops with my fab. They said it would be difficult to decat it, as there isnt much room for a sleeve before the bend up to the turbo. However, I did want it so I could fit the cat for MOT time, if there ever was a problem......

You still only need a cat if its a petrol! I say decat, sounds better

diesels dont need a cat for mot, i just put a straight thru on my vrs and it passd

De-cat! you get a nice whistle from the exhaust :) dont muffle rectomy. I did it, and it sounded crap! no howling or pigeon noise. Just straight up JCB on steroids! sounded rubbish!

Well its booked in for a decat on monday cant wait to see how it sounds :)

You should get rid of your standard back box too, and replace it with a custom one as a decat on its own doesnt do that much.

Mufflerectomy sounds poo in comparrison to having a custom back box.

lol, i took my backbox off and put on a smaller box from a bmw 120d haha! when you put foot down it sounds well haha!

I put a sportex 3" twin tailpipe back box on mine off a escort I think. Hasn't made that much difference to the sound but was free so all good

Well i got the decat done today and i dunno if its jus me but it seems much more responsive and pulls alot harder...

I asked about a custom box and the price seemed reasonable so it cud be an option next month jus dunno wot tail pipe cant decide between an oval or a twin ???

How does it sound? Really want to do my decat but worried with it already being remapped. I always say if you want it to look modified go twin but if you want to go the more standard route stay with a oval

mine was mapped before i de-catted it, its been fine for the last 18 months :)

Silly question but where would you get a decat done? I'm assuming any exhaust place like Ablefit? I'm considering the cheap route of removing the insides and refitting the standard shell, any had/heard any bad experiences?

I keep hearing horror stories of them over boosting that's all

On the petrols they sound really raspy, not sure on diesels. Think it's pretty easy to chop the cat out and weld some pipe in that's what I was gunna do

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I guess replacing with a piece of pipe is a good idea because you still have the original cat. I'm going to leave the backbox in place as the general consensus is they're too noisy.
