problem with sat nav

Featured Replies

i have fitted in my 2006 VRS a RNS 510, but it cant seem to find my current location?? it seems to always say i'm in colchester when i'm not, i have cleared the sat nav history and returned it to factory settings but still says im in colchester, any clues as to whats happened??

Karl (sutton coldfield not colchester lol)

Duff GPS antenna probably.

Press 'Map' to bring up split screen view and it should show several items including how many satellites are visible and how many tracked.

There should be about 8-14 visible and, ideally, a similar number tracked.

If you have less than 3 tracked there will not be a 3D fix on your position.

If this is the case then either the GPS antenna is duff or the connection is dodgy (there are other reasons, but these are the most likely at this stage if diagnosis).

PS: did you fit a GPS antenna?

If the car didn't have factory fitted sat nav before hand and you didn't fit one, you will need a GPS antenna. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2ec6bb03c3 This should do the job, plug on end is correct for your RNS510, just pull it back out plug that in and mount antenna under dash (handy to remove air vents above where the radio slots in to see a good place to stick it). Have you researched possibility of battery drain issues when retrofitting RNS510? I think for a 2006 there is a can gateway update needed possibly.

Well i have bought a new gps antenna, there was one fitted but it must have been shot as it was showing no satellites, fitted the new one and its showing 7/9 so that's better, but think i need to do a firmware update as found out im running a very old firmware on the unit.

So thanks very much for the help guys, its much appreciated.

Good. Good.

There's pleanty of advice on this forum about upgrading firmware.

Have a look at the 'My GTI' website for more technical info & downloads.

My Blackline MKII 2013 Was showing French or Dutch maps whilst I was on the M25 last week. Today heading for Chichester was showing Colchester by the afternoon it righted itself ? Garage has ordered a new antenna. Hope this resolves problem !
