There seems to be much confusion as to what 'maxidot' is. I have a display like the top one but i'm unable to access any extra menus on it by holding the stalk buttons. The stalk buttons just cycle through the ususal mpg/mileage/time stats. So the type of display doesn't necessarily mean you can change options. Still don't know if I have a 'maxidot' or not I guess not, but the display is exactly like the top one!

You need to press & hold in the rocker button on the end of the wiper stalk for a second or two.  At the moment you are in MFD mode & a quick push (up or down) cycles through the various read-outs as you described.  Holding the rocker switch in should get you a menu that (depending on options) will say:

MFD (I think it's MFD - maybe just DISPLAY

AUDIO

SETTINGS

 

If you have BT then PHONE will be in there too.

No, I don't get that at all. I held the button in for several seconds and then some. I don't think the option is fitted, so the display doesn't necessarily depict  you have the menu functions.
