central locking query

hi there, i,ve just purchased a fabia sport 1.4 16v for my partner to add to out skoda collection, i'm just wondering why the central locking only works on the front doors when upon investigation there are actuators fitted to the rear doors also but there just not working ??

on a separate subject, the car has electric front windows but the switches look a bit of an afterthought just stuck onto the centre console covering a little compartment, they would look a lot better wired into the dor handles like some are, i can see a trip to the breakers yard looming !!
