As far as I can tell it either doesn't exist at all or it no longer exists, I've given up and will go for the black trim as Chris has posted above. The other option is a Bolero stereo will fit in the same space but you may need to upgrade your CAN gateway if it's a revision older than L to avoid the battery drain issue (K's seem to be in the middle, some people report them working some not)

The black trim has arrived today so I've fitted it and it looks fine, in case anyone is wondering how bad it looks without the right trim here are before and after pictures:

Definitely happier with it now, I have trim removal tools on the way to get the storage box off and hopefully fit the GPS antennae and BT mic plus a tiny USB stick. Still need to work on this broken antennae connector though, once I get that sorted that will be a weight off my mind.

They don't - the only silver one there with manual A/C is for the Stream/Bolero shape, they don't offer a silver one with manual A/C for pre-FL and the navigation shape.

John

Ah see what you mean now.Appologies for that.I think a simple spray job would sort it out though.

Thanks anyway as I'd have been delighted to have been proved wrong. Given the cheap cost (£5) and the high postage (£6) I'm kicking myself for not just buying a second one at the same time so I could have a practice with recoating it. My concern with spraying it is that the plastic has to be able to flex quite a bit as it comes on and off which could make a mess of coating. I'll see how it goes as so far I'm not as bothered as it being black as I thought I would.

Great stuff, now sort your gear knob insert: http://www.superskoda.com/scripts/podrobnosti.php?IDZ=9943&admin=1&MS=1&SC=71d58935fa9ebd2d513d226c3a646e71

Ah, I didn't realise it was just that part and not the whole top of the gearstick. I had a quick look at mine earlier and was wondering how easily the old one comes off?

John

Thin piece of stiff plastic/trim removal tool under the bottom edge of the insert and lever straight up, easy.

i managed to get a trim and a columbus from a 58 plate octy 2 but it turns out the trim is the black one that has been sprayed! so i resprayed it, it actually doesnt look that back, new problem though i think the new stereo is draining the battery am i right in thinking this is old news?? has anyone had this problem or more to the point how do i fix it??

This is a well known issue with Bolero and Columbus units (and probably Amundsen units as well) which is caused by your CAN gateway being too old, if it's pre-K then a Bolero/Columbus will drain the battery which I assume yours is. Normally the solution is to upgrade the gateway which is reasonably straightforward as you can buy precoded units and if your car is pre-2007 ish the gateway should be just behind the glovebox.

The other possible solution although I've no idea how it works is to patch the Columbus, there are Columbus sellers on ebay that offer to patch the firmware for pre-2007 cars to avoid the battery drain issue. I don't know what that actually involves though but may be worth looking into first.

yeah mine is 2006 model, ive already seen the gateway behine the glovebox, do you know if i buy a newer gateway whether it would plug and play or does it need coding??

  • Author

I don't quite understand the coding side of it, I believe if you buy a standard CAN gateway you would need to code it but I've seen precoded CAN gateways offered here (by Eddie-NL here) and there's people on ebay selling CAN gateways and they offer to precode them. I'd try a message to Eddie-NL as he may be able to at least help you.

John

thanks for the info, i have messaged the sellers on ebay with regards to recoding my unit for me but they were not interested so i will give eddie a shout
