Octavia II stereo options for standard fit (non-nav trim)

Featured Replies

I've been trying to get nav trim for my Octavia but had difficulty tracking it down and Skodateile have just replied saying they don't think the trim exists - that is a silver trim for manual A/C. There is the option of getting a black one and spraying but I'm dubious I could do that without it looking pretty poor.

The obvious option is the Bolero but as I have an older revision gateway it seems likely I'll need a new CAN gateway which is a bit of a fiddle and there's also the backlighting issue which sounds irritating. I actually thought I had a K revision but I does this mean I have an 'H' revision:

address 19: CAN Gateway Labels: 1K0-907-530.lbl

Part No SW: 1K0 907 530 H HW: 1K0 907 951

Component: J533__Gateway H12 0150

Revision: H12 Serial number:

Coding: 3D0F074007002303

Shop #: WSC 20011 576 92306

As I don't have Maxidot nor climate control and lose PDC anyway I'm wondering if there's any aftermarket options that fit the standard trim, there's a Kenwood recommended on here but it needs the Nav trim. The Columbus obviously does and unfortunately so does the Amundsen.

Thanks,

John

I have manual AC and an Amundsen and silver trim so it must be available somewhere.

I'm guessing you have a FL car or FL interior? The air-con controls are slightly different for the FL interiors and unfortunately they can't be swapped over.

John

have you contacted skoda?

In 2008 (i think - certainly before the face lift though) they changed the layout of the dash slightly. This is why if you buy a single din headunit kit like I did you still have to buy a facia trim if you have a pre 2008 car as the kit only comes with post 2008 dash layout

Contacting skoda will be your best bet. The trim isnt pricey, I paid £20 for mine

Correct hadn't realised yours wasn't.

Sorry reading back my post I didn't make that clear, I've already made the same pre-FL vs FL mistake myself as I came across someone who had suitable trim then realised they had an FL car.

John

what year is your car?

as i said. Its not a matter of face lift vs pre face lift. Its year specific

I've spoken to two specialist Skoda parts supplies (Skodaparts and Skodateile), neither can find the part. I haven't spoken to my local Skoda dealer as they were taken over by Arnold Clark and got rid of all the Skoda staff so they've not been much help previously. If there are any dealers particularly good with parts though that someone can recommend I'd give them a try.

You're right that in 2008 they changed the dashboard slightly, the manual A/C was changed to rotating dials more like a volume control and I think all three are the same size plus the aircon, rear heater and recirculating air switches sit alongside each other in a row whereas on mine the middle dial is a little smaller and two of the switches are along the top, one goes below the other two. There definitely is a silver navigation trim that fits this combination, the lower section is black and the rest silver and I've found people using this combination but no-one with the older dials.

It's a 56 plate car although I believe it's a MY2007 spec as it has the Stream MP3 and the red calipers (although a very old gateway revision it seems), it definitely has the older interior and not the newer version unfortunately.

A picture would probably help, this is what my central console looks like:

Skodateile do list what looks like a suitable part but apparently they only have it in black, I don't know if this means they cannot source it or it does not exist:

This is the one for newer cars which unfortunately won't fit mine:

I'd obviously be happy to be proved wrong on this. I've looked at some of the aftermarket units which are specifically for VW such as Zenec and Kenwood but they all seem to be for the nav trim rather than the standard trim.

it might not be. Mine is the same but is a september 2006 car.

When I bought the headunit kit I came with this:

But its for the 2008> cars.

It doesnt matter which dealer you speak to really. They should be able to post it to you if you are quite a treck away from them. As you say, there is nothing in silver on skodaparts, only dark grey

Skodateile have replied saying there used to be the part I need but not anymore, it's annoying I can't change over the heater controls and fit that part you've posted the image of as I prefer the newer heater controls as well. My local dealer are no use and given this seems a tricky question it would need one that's a bit more clued up with the parts.

John

I'm pretty sure it doesn't exist, I was in similar situ as you and searched for a long time without success. I went with the black in the end and I actually prefer it over silver.

If you definitely wanted silver it's a small enough size to think about wrapping it fairly easily I would've thought, and the plain black fascia should cost only around a tenner from a dealer.

If you paint it you should use a flexible paint as it flexes quite a bit when you fit/remove it.

Thanks for the picture, is that just the normal black or have you changed the colour a bit? I find the cabin a bit dark so I like the silver to brighten it up a bit, there's quite a few Octavia taxi's here unsurprisingly and I haven't liked the black trim in them although it looks much better in your shot, possibly due to the shiny gear knob. I take it that's a FL one you've put on? Which stereo is that?

John

Hi John,

That's just the standard black, it's fairly matte but it's been buffed up slightly with interior trim polish. I found the silver just highlighted the fact that I didn't have the dual climate controls, which bugged me, so the black makes the area more subtle.

Yeah it's a FL knob insert, think it cost around £20 from Superskoda, looks much better than the old one, though it's still plastic.

Stereo is a RCD 310 DAB from a VW, fitted it specifically for the DAB. Bought from Eddie-NL for a v.reasonable price.

I'm thinking of going with just the black option then, it's that cheap I can get a couple and try wrapping or painting one and if it doesn't work then I haven't really lost out. I'm planning on putting that Kenwood unit in that Nick recommends a few topics down from here so I think all I need are that, the trim and some trim removal tools as the Kenwood (hopefully) should come with all the adapters I need and I don't think a new CAN gateway is needed.

If you're firm but gentle, you don't need any trim removal tools. Open the ashtray and pull from the bottom upwards :)

I'm never keen on trying to wrench off these sort of parts so I like the idea of trim removal tools to give me a hand.

Wat stereo is this from, looks far nicer than the one i have?

It's an RCD 310 DAB from a VW (hence the red backlight). Bought mine from ebay, though it turned out the seller was actually Eddie-NL who posts here.

There's plenty of them on ebay for around £100-£120.

I can vouch for the RCD310DAB too :)

hi do you know if the trim is available from the dealers? would anyone have a part number for it or is it one that is exclusive to superskoda?? also does anyone know the approx size of the opening on the trim as looking at replacement stereo on flea bay??

cheers

Which trim are you looking for? There's a few different versions depending on which heater controls you have.

This thread contains useful part numbers including the trim parts:

The Stream and Bolero are the same shape, the Columbus and the Amundsen are a different, very slightly smaller shape (navigation trim). I don't think it's a standard size shape so it would need to be a VW designed unit, there are some third party ones from Kenwood, Zenec etc. but I don't know how well non-VW designed units would fit physically and electronically.

I see what you mean, I thought it was worth a go when waiting in the car at one point today and was surprised how easily the trim lifted off as I was expecting a real battle with a lot of leverage to get it away.

I've gone ahead and ordered the Kenwood DNX520VBT so just need to organise the black trim now although at least I can still fit it in the meantime as it just means having a gap.
