Plastdip

ok is plastidip as easy as this video makes it look

I thinking that my "track" Leon wheels might make a nice replacement for the battered and kerbed gold wheels if they were white but can't be bothered with another full DIY refurb.

Is plastidip genuinely this easy?

Do any Briskodians have experience of actually using it?

Friends on a venture with this (similar product, no brand) atm, getting his first batch (though only in matt black, other colours later if it goes well) in a few weeks :)

Hes tried it on his wheels and its pretty good in the flesh. Im going to nab some from him and try it on other things in the v near future. But yes, pretty straight forward, he didnt even take his wheels off to do it, took him what.. 1hr or so? lol

For reference - its about a can per wheel.

If you look at the end result on the video he's missed lots of areas on the spokes. I'd guess it'd be far easier to ensure an even coverage with the wheel lying flat on the ground.

My experience is that any run or imperfection is pretty much impossible to remove - you can't sand it back like you can with paint etc.

Finish is pretty good though - I've done the grill on my car and it's lasted very well.

surely you need Pastydip? :giggle:

hmmm would probably be worth a punt if it wasn't £17 a can!

I could spray them badly for much less ;)

I did my wheels they look great and have been coating for nearly 6 month now!

Plast dipped my grill and still as good as the day I done it, waiting till some sun to attach my new badges (thanks pastyboy (: ) and then when the warm weathers here doing my wheels brought 6 cans for around £70 online

They were selling this stuff at Trax - a different make but same sized cans. £50 for 2 which apparently was more than enough to do 4 22" wheels?

Nah 3 is suffice, 50 for 2 is expensive.

I plasti-dipped the grill in-situ on the vRoomster.

Unfortunately I'm impatient and took to fast drying each coat with a hairdryer. The coating pormptly peeled off the following day in a very heavy downpour on the M1.

I'm planning to try again when the weather is better.

Been looking for some black Plastidip aerosol cans, but can't find them in stock anywhere. Does anyone know where I can get some?

This available in a few colours or just black and white?

I've seen all sorts of colors mate from neon green to bright orange!

Been thinking of doing my grill and wheels with the black.

Used it on my golf.

I thought it was really good and easy to use, if you do get any imperfections its easy to correct, you wait for it to dry and take it off then do it again. I did my bumper strips as they had faded and looked minging.

Tips i can give are do lots of light coats, dont spray too far away and make sure its not too hot. I will also point out this stuff is not designed for use on wheels and thats why it doesnt really work very well. you cant top it up either you have to rip it all off and start again if it chips. just spray it yourself or get it done professionally.

here is my attempt. took me an hour and i did 5 thin coats.
