Best headlight bulbs?

Featured Replies

As seems to be the norm with the Mk1, my lights are rubbish, even with the Phillips ultra bright bulbs the previous owner fitted!

Not looking to spend a fortune, but I'd like some decently bright bulbs, some matching silver indicator bulbs, and possibly some brighter (LED?) side light bulbs, any recommendations please? Cheers.

Bulbs ???

Or a sneaky hid kit :D

Yeah....... I said it :D

Osram nightbreakers.

If that fails then, buy a HID kit with the proper headlight units with adjusters, and setup headlight washers

i got 100 watters, bright enough to actually be about the same level as a normal car now. Literally twice as good.

Not strictly legal but I put being able to see a hazard on a dark road above using a lightbulb which might be a little taboo. It isn't like they blind anyone either as like they say they're about as good as a normal car now.

ring 120% for me i love em :)

How long have you had these fitted?

8 months now. No issues. Even with plastic lenses on Octy lights.

If it was a danger to anyone I wouldn't use them. Octys lights as standard are dire.

Thanks for the replies, will look into them all.

What bulb/bulbs do I need? Some sites say H4, some say H7? Cheers.

H4 twin filiment....i have halfords 120% brighter ones (there made by ring anyway) they are very good the only trouble is in this wether the salt on the headlamps kills most of the light

I'm happy with my Osram Nightbreaker Plus H4, and Osram Cool Blue Hyper in the fog lights. Cool Blue Hyper looks exactly like xenon in the DE lenses!

What type are the fogs? I need them next.

Fog are H3. I have Nightbreakers in the headlights, changing to Philips Blue Vision though.

You got some like these mate, 100/80w, or 100/55w - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ring-Rally-Sport-Performance-Light-Bulbs-Twin-Pack-H4-472-100w-80w-/360614945343?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item53f653623f

Similar mate yeah, some from xenons UK on eBay I think. Will have to try check my purchase lists. Only issue I was worried about was heat output, but the ones I have don't seem to get very hot and are fine in the plastic lenses.

Ordered a set of Ring Ultima Xenon +120%, some silver front indicator bulbs, and a set of cheapo 1w LED sidelight bulbs, see how that goes, cheers for the input! :)

I used those ring ones before I uprated, were ok but still not good enough. You may be happy with them though mate if you're coming from standard bulbs!

If you've got a link to the ones you bought, that would be great, can't do any harm to try more than one set. :-)

Put some phillips h4 ultra vision bulbs in mine 2day made a world of difference compared to the bob standard ones! Apparently they are supposed to give out same amount if light as a hid.

Don't know what state peoples headlights are in with all the complaints that they are naff as standard. I got eXtreme Vision Philips in mine and they are fantastic. The only downside is main beam on it's own really needs the dip with it to light the road in front. Easily sorted.

Even the lights in my Mk2 Golf GTI were better than my Octavia with the standard bulbs in it. And they were renowned for having candles for headlights!

Maybe my lenses aren't the best but they are flipping awful standard.
