hello i need some advice!

my fabia 1.4tdi greenline used to drive so long legged it ran in 1st 2nd on tick-over i was pleased with the drive to work low revs pulling from 900rpm never going over 2000rpm getting 70mpg.

now post a longish MOT it appears to be lower geared 1st to 4th and gutless till 2000 rpm not the same later when i drove it was clear something is different and it does 10mpg less on the way to work now, is the gearbox numbered so it can be checked against the chassis no ? i suspect it may have been swapped (remember the days when go faster tuning kit was what you had to keep a eye on) it seems someone could not resit a upgrade to low revs, it drives ok but it is not the same car
