vRS leather uphostery - slight bagging on drivers seat base at only 2 months/2k old

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone else with a new/newish vRS with full leather can comment on how much and how soon the front seat bases begin to give and show some natural squab/leather bagging.

My cars 2 months old with just over 2k on the clock, in my mind hardly been driven yet the seat base has begun to give already leaving some minor bagging of the leather, really only affecting the middle panel of the bit your ass has contact with.

Passenger seat is perfect still but has seen less action. Just want opinions of the masses as to whether its a normal thing before I think about the hassle of having it looked at under warranty.

Cheers.

Mine are fine , from new and 4 k mileage .... Not being rude but what weight is on them .... For the record I'm 6'2 and 14 st and mine are no different from when I picked it up ...... Just a thought

Yeah its annoying, its not bad just that I notice everytime i get in and out of it now and can only see it getting worse. I'm 5" 10ish and approx 12.5 stone so weight not the issue.

I think i might get it in then as its also got an annoyibg ancilary belt noise when cold (think its the AC belt) so kill two birds and all that.

Might as well have em look at it ... You paid for the warranty might as well kick the a** out of it if you're not happy

I have a vRS Blackline done 3000 miles and mine is exactly the same, i.e. the center of the drivers seat base has gone shiny and baggy. Its certainly nothing to do with weight as I'm of average build.

I also have a slipping belt type noise occasionally when its stood out in damp conditions overnight, I asked my local dealer about this a while ago and was told that its quite common and nothing to worry about!

Cheers for this, I reckon if i got the squab replaced it'd probably just happen again thats the only thing. Also re the belt squeeks i think that is v common, bloody annoying though and a bit embarrasing when you get people looking at your 62 plate car squeeking away like its 20 odd years old.....still i might put it in and see what happens.

Did the same thing about my back bumper; there is a deviation in the bottom line of the bumper around the tow bar cutout; was like it when i picked it up almost like its not quite mounted right or has somehow been misformed in transit without the bumper actually being obviously damaged. Again not bad but shows on a white car and i know its there; dealer just said lots of them are like it and perfectly normal....its made me think twice about the actual quality of the build of the car and Skodas in general. Had two new ones (Fabia vRS estate and the Blackline estate) the Fabia had a load of silly warranty work, seems like the Octavia might be following the same path disappointingly......still my last MK6 Golf really was no better!

Mine is a white one too, I've also had quite a few minor but non the less irritating quality issues, I have managed to get them all sorted via the dealer, I think they think I'm very fussy but I'm not bothered one bit, I just tell them how it is and point out that it shouldn't be like that no matter how minor the issue. At the end of the day we are forking out a lot of hard earned cash and in return we have the right to expect all to be spot on regards quality, that's my opinion anyway.

Personally I don't think you will get far with the seat issue, they will just say that its down to leather being a natural product and that it does give with use blah blah blah, it's just how it is. Regards the odd cold start squeal from the belt I think the best they will do is just check / adjust its tension at most (that's if it is adjustable!), they may well again just say that it's relatively normal and not to worry about it. I now that its not actually anything to worry about i.e. its not doing any harm.

ATB mate.

Enjoy your new car. :)

On my drivers seat base bolster (near door), the leather has creased like the cover is larger than the foam. (started to go after 700miles)

They said they would send pics to SUK

Mines the same mate, poor.

To stop the belt squeal use some sort of dash dressing such as autoglym vinyl and rubber dressing on it.

Has anyone ever replaced drivers seat base foam on a Vrs? Mines sagging a small bit would like to replace the base foam! It's on a 07 Vrs.

I think a lot of leather seats in cars do this baggy thing had a brand new top of the range Kia Sorrento went like this after a few thousand miles im only 11stone dont think weights the issue. If you treat the seats with leather food or cleaner it seems to make them worse.

Mines not full leather but my drivers seat side bolster is baggy on the outside. looks like a factory fault to me, potentially the panel being out of shape or stitched incorrectly.

Warrenty guy looked at it, and agreeed it was wrong so It went in on Monday and they have replaced the foam supposedly but its made no difference. Going to be contacting them today to have another look at it. Needs a new seat imo.

I bought my car used ,is't an 11 plate with 17K mles on it (had 10K when I bought it). So after 6 months of my 15 1/2 stone bulk, the seat seems OK. Clearly not 'new' but fine as far as I'm concerned. No idea how large the previous owner was. To be honest, the passenger seat looks a wee bit better, but my other half is only just over half my weight!!

It is genuine leather, so it stretches - typical problem. Can be helped by using a stronger foam base that wont give in so easily. My vRS leather/alcantara seat started looking like poop after a few thousand kilometers. Lucky I own a upholstery shop and will fix it soon by adding a "bottom textile" to the leather bit - that one will stop it from stretching. Same goes for the center armrest - I can see my elbow shape in it. And I don't lean on it "that much"..
