Octane booster

Featured Replies

I know you probably know this, but raising the octane rating without mapping for it will not give much benefit.

Personally I'd get some high octane fuel and a switchable map.

Richard but remember the placebo effect :)

I had heard that yeah. I was just curious as to whether you could pop it in your tank, and just have a bit of fun on some quiet roads. Obviously it's not going give me a load more BHP, but for a £10er, seemed worth a try, just to see the difference, if any. Some people have said they've used higher Ron petrol scores Europe and enjoyed driving with it.

And I use 98 or 99 octane fuel all the time as it is. If it doesn't do any harm, it's not much to lose. I plan to get a switchable map soon. Just few bits to get before hand. But that's another matter

On the Nissan I have maps for 95 and 99 RON fuel.

The guy that supplies the club with racing fuels (VP fuels) says the only benefit without mapping is greater protection for the engine. Less chance of knock even if sticking 102 RON in like they sell on site at Silverstone.

It won't make a noticeable difference IMO, but you may think it's quicker because you are concentrating more on the car's performance because you are looking for a difference.

I can't see any harm in trying it though. :)

Yep, i see no harm in trying. Like i said, at that price, and have read its meant to be one of the better ones around. why not.

Thanks a lot mate, just the kind of response/information I was after. Cheers.

Might be cheap, but a complete waste of £10 all the same. It will not make the blindest bit of difference to your car!

Its like me saying washing the mud from inside your wheel arches will shave half a second of your 0-60 time.

Does that mean I can shave 2 seconds off if I clean all 4? Lol.
