Wing mirror laws

Featured Replies

So ive had my car run into down the drivers side, am i road legal to drive without my drivers mirror? Obviously its abit awkward but i need the car for work until my car goes into the bodyshop.

Im not bothered about MOT failure stuff. Just will i get pulled by the po-po for it? :) my new mirror is here on wednesday.

i seem to think legally you have to have 2 mirrors? so if you have interior and a door mirror you should be ok

in the words of nike ...... just do it

:)

Ahh spot on. I will aha

In theory I suppose using interior mirror and checking the blind spot sort of achieves the same thing,

You do not need a passenger mirror but you do, by law need a drivers door mirror if fitted as standard. Its a bit like a spare wheel, if you have one, it has to be in a road worthy condition.

In a word....No.

You must by law have an Offside mirror (drivers door mirror). You then must have either an internal mirror, or nearside door mirror....or both!....so It would be legal to drive if you lost your passenger door mirror....as long as your internal mirror was still there, and vice versa....but you must have a drivers side door mirror at all times.

Before someone says "my grand dad's Mk2 Anglia didn't have that" Cars built pre 1978 only require any one of the above mirrors.

Have a look here:

Good luck in interpreting it.

By my own experience if the offside mirror doesn't provide an adequate view to the rear, the vehicle is not roadworthy and it's an offence to use an unroadworthy vehicle.

The spare wheel thing above is an old wives tale - not true.

Interesting! No chance of duct taping the mirror to the car in the short term?

"Save as provided in paragraph (5), in the case of a motor vehicle falling within paragraph (a) in column 4 of items 1 and 5, or within item 6, of the Table"

I love the way The Department of Transport have a way of wording things. so that everyone is left in no doubt whatsoever as to what they are trying to say!

how bad is the car? if its just the mirror knocked off then if you wished to be abit naughty you could put all the bits of mirror in the boot and if you get stopped during the journey whilst passing parked cars a car coming the other way knocked off your mirror and you are going to arrange to get it fixed asap .... then usually you get a warning and i think its 14 days to fix it ....

Unfortunately not. Its currently in pieces all over the road and a few larger pieces i picked up after i attempted to tape it and it fell off going over a speedbump

No idea. I was tucked up in bed on my day off, expecting a lie in until 12. Woken at 7am by my dad saying someone had knocked my mirror off and was outside. I went to check my car. Took a few steps back and woke myself up abit. And realised the state of my car. Lad offered to pay for it all. God knows how he managed it. But i got a quote and he gave me the cash. Cars all booked in to get sorted (y) couldnt have asked for a better, more genuine person to hit my car really
