How do the tyre pressure moniter thing work

Featured Replies

As above as my light is now on and i dont get wat reads the pressures

Thanks chaps

i think it works through the abs sensor and detects it needs more resistance to turn one wheel that is either low pressure or flat and then this relays it to the TPM and then puts the light on the dash

It works by reading the abs ring teeth. So if a tyre goes down the rotation speed will be greater on that ring compared to others. It could also be the ring has cracked and opened up, giving the fault light.

It's done by comparing wheel speeds. A flat tyre has a smaller rolling circumference than an inflated one and will therefore turn faster than the other wheels. The ABS sensor is used to detect the wheel speed.

I get the feeling that the abs system may be involved :D
