Oil Consumption Vrs Mk1

Featured Replies

Recently got my VRS - Its a 55reg mk1 with 155k on the clock (stage 1 remap and KME LPG conversion). Had it serviced beginning of March.

Just checked the oil, and it's below the minumium fill level, so it's used a couple of pints in a couple of thousand miles. (Is this normal - It passed its emission test with flying colours - and has no visible smoke)

I don't have a handbook, so put in some 5/30 I had left from my previous car, and some 10/40 I had kicking around.

Anyone know what the correct spec of oil is - or is thicker oil acceptable for higher mileage engines ?

That's not normal - mine has done 119,000km from new and never needed the oil topping up.

They can use a bit (up to 0.5 L per 1000km according to handbook).

Mines uses a bit but not nearly that much, I wouldn't worry about unless it starts smoking personally

Mine uses loads more than that in the last few months.

I'm at about a litre every 600 miles atm.

Don't worry about yours it sounds normal

Some use some don't, mine is abnormal !!

No smoke form mine either so I have no idea whats going on.

A good one will use next to nothing !!

Mines is awesome, uses a little, but still awesome ;)

8k since my last oil change and its just below the max mark.

Don't mix different grades of oil

I use 5w30 in mine and change it every 5k and never have to top it up in between and i also drive quiet spiritedly and tow with it occasionally

Strange this. My old 2.0 20v A4 used 1ltr every 700 miles, no smoke or leaks, it's as if it was literally disappearing or being stolen lol.

I had a Civic vti before that and it used 1ltr every 1000 miles and there was clouds of blue smoke above 4k rpm.
