Another Changing the Radio thread

Gentlemen and ladies

First post here so be gentle and I apologise for asking the question again.

Being the total technology whore that I am, I've just forked out for a 2nd hand Bolero unit (without code...I know, I know...) to go in my 05 plate Octy Elegance Estate (2.0 Pdi) as a replacement for an extremely naff Parrot unit and the Stream radio currently there.

My questions are, to clarify what else I now need to buy.

From reading the forums I suspect the CAN gateway will need to be replaced.

Would this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-CAN-Gateway-CAN-BUS-Precoded-RNS510-RCD-Skoda-Columbus-Bolero-Golf-Mk5-Gti-/130873619077?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1e78acf285

be acceptable or is it relatively easy to recode a blank version oneself ( I have a generic USB connector and the VCDS Lite software, as yet untested on the Skoda but worked fine on my old Passat)

Do I need to buy anything else?

Is it possible to glean the radio code using the VCDS lite softwware or is that a visit to the dealer?

And I guess I will lose the climate and reverse parking graphics

Final question I assume it will fit in the same hole as the Stream unit and not need a new fascia, is that correct?

That's it, and I'm Weston super Mare if anyone's able to help.

Many Thanks

Nope you will need full version of VCDS sorry.

Yes dealership should be able to provide the code.

And the fascia is the same yes.

You need a fakara adapter if you wish to use AM/FM RADIO as the bolero has 2 aerials an the stream only has one. Otherwise you can just opt for having FM only. You get them on eBay pretty cheap.

The dealer shouldn't give you the code for the Bolero as they are only supposed to be able to get it if still fitted to the original vehicle.

If you have the original VIN it is possible, but they might not do it.

VCDS (full or lite) cannot access radio codes.

For Bluetooth / phone calls you'll need a BT module & wiring loom with microphone to be fitted (c.£130 + fitting).

Ask Eddie_NL in here about the costs for preceded CAN gateways & BT kits.
