Oil Breather Pipe

Featured Replies

Hello all, new here but I have just brought an Octavia VRS Mk1. The EML has just come on and seems to be staying on... The car is not driving/performing any differently to normal. Thought I'd have a look round today and have found a split pipe...

I will describe it as best as I can as I can't take a photo today. The Oil Breather pipe at the top right of the engine has two exits at the bottom, one looks as if it goes into the rocker cover and one that connects to a black pipe going further down into the engine (Sorry I am no mechanic) It is the black pipe going down into the engine that has a split in it.

Could this cause the EML to come on.... Car is booked into the stealers on Thursday, was just curious though..

Thanks for any help...

Yes it can and easy to replace do it yourself ;-) take 30mins at most

I was probably a bit harsh with the stealers thing.... It's going there anyway Thursday as I have brought two cars from them in 8 months they are going to do a full inspection on this one (not from them) for £30. Just happened the light came on anyway.... only had it two weeks... Will get them to scan it and fix the pipe myself if that is the problem.....

Get the one from creation motorsports and never worry about it again.

The pipe you are talking about is this one.

But there is also 3 other pipes in the PCV system you can change.

They are

You could also change the PCV valve too at the same time but TBH just clean it out.

Changing all 4 will be a lot better than just changing the one. Also 2 of the 3 pipes are cheaper from Creation Motorsport than they are from Skoda/VW. The part on ebay is also less than 1/2 the price of the Skoda/VW one.

Its very easy to change the pipes (other than one clip that holds the solid plastic pipe.

You may also want to order a Dip stick flute at the same time as taking the old one off makes the job sooo much easier.

Sod the creation stuff just buy the one piece from sfs all you need and is good quality and replaces the lot !!!

Well thanks for all the help.. noticed the car was starting to behave in an odd way before i got to the garage today. Slight hesitation when pulling off.. Turns out it was the coil packs, luckily they were still due under the recall. Nice free trip to the garage for a change. Thanks for the help though and will obviously still be replacing the oil breather pipes anyway so thanks for the links :)

So the saga continues....... Had the coil packs replaced under recall. Engine light stayed off until yesterday so now its back to Skoda again on Thursday. Car still appears to be driving fine though.... Very odd

Ok so the car went back to Skoda and I am going to end up with a £500 repair bill. Four pipes around the turbo have large splits in so all need replacing..... Lovely. Also booked in a full service as it appears i brought a dog so i might as well find out what else is wrong. Not good news

My dealer did a full check on the engine when they changed the coil packs, told me about my spilt breather pipes and that my diverter valve pipe was starting to spilt all for nothing. Also did a visual check on suspension, brakes and tyres

Sent from my dad's old HTC Incredible S, not a dodgy s3!
