stage 2 CAI advice

Featured Replies

After all the discussion over the past couple of days with regards to CAI/Uprated panel filters/OEM filters, I just want to double check, if I am going stage 2 will I need the CAI or can it be done with the normal box and an uprated panel filter? And if I go CAI, what are green's cone filters like? I personally want green's because of the colour (engine bay colour scheme).

Box and panel filter is fine preferable with a cold air feed added large

Tricky subject, heard that it was fine if not better with the stock box. However a cai sounds better lol. You do know that you can't see the filter on a cai?

From any angle? Because I am going green, grey, polished in the bay and it would drive me insane if I could see a red cone filter! I would rather have power over sound and less torque. If there is no benefits I will just paint the box.

Yup any angle, the filter is in front of the wheel arch, all you see is the pipe

It depends on which cai kit you go for I guess, but with my ebay one (and the one most on here seem to use) the filter is below the headlight and inside the bumper so you can't see it.

My jabbasport one is basicly just a maf adaptor, and a heatshield with a k&n filter so that 1 can be seen clearly.

Yeh thats the same as the 1 I have on the track car, but with a k&n filter on the end.

But as said above there's no benefit to it over standard except noise?

I don't know as I didn't have mine mapped with the standard airbox.

It deffo sounds better with cai though :D

The answer to this will be never ending and depends who you ask and who answers lol.

As I am answering I had my car mapped with CAI and pulls well, I have re fitted std box few times and taken off as does not run as well for my set up.

my advise is don't go for a CAI just to expect mega performance over std airbox, get one if you prefer the noise of one and a better looking engine bay. Also do not go for a cone that just sits on MAF. If you fit a CAi it won't matter what colour as you won't see it behind bumper.

Another advantage is freeing up a little space in the engine bay too.

The DV is very loud with the CAI. if you like the stealthy approach maybe it's too noisy. There isn't much of a throaty induction noise like on a non-turbo car, just the spooling of the turbo and diverter valve.

I had a cold feed to my std air box with an ITG panel filter I honestly can't say I noticed any difference in performance when I fitted a CAI.

I spoke to R-tech today and they said to have a CAI with a cone filter. when it comes to cone filters, which are the best to go for? the pricey dual cones or just a single?

And just another question... TIPs ... are all the silcone ones the same (bar the bigger bores) or is the Autobahn going to be different to the CMSport and Forge models?

Forge or the new 75mm SFS TIP's are the better ones to use, the others are restrictive it seems.

As for filter, just get a K&N and your be fine.

Shame they're so pricey though!

Well it's approx £135 - £150 for a TIP that won't restrict your power, vs £75 for one that will.

As for filter, something like this seems reasonable to me, seeing as it will stop crap going through the turbo and the engine, unlike the junk that most cheap CAI's are supplied with.

I have an eBay pipe and S2000 filter. Filters are about £14ish from ECP with brisky discount code. Pics in my project thread.

im running a pipercross panel in standard airbox and the turbo spool sounds awesome and you can really hear the 007p dumping :-) check out mighty car mods on youtube

they proove on a dyno with a skyline that cone filters do nothing for performance over a standard airbox.
