KW Coilovers quick review.

Featured Replies

I've had these on about a month now, have played around with ride height and found that 30mm lower than standard is fine for general running about. 45mm was too extreme, at the recent Knockhill track night I ran around 40mm lower, the set up was fantastic for the track. Very neutral handling, great for four wheel drifting and the "standard brakes" were a treat once warmed up. I'd highly recomend the coilovers to anybody, the finish is fantastic in Inox.

The downside to these is that they are a pain to adjust, won't be doing it too often.

The damping seems more progressive than my previous Eibach set up and the rebound nowhere near as harsh.

I compared the pictures from the last track day with these and body roll is much reduced.

How is the ride and which Eibach setup did you have before?

cheers

Previous setup was standard dampers and 25mm lower Eibach springs ( for VRS). The ride at 30mm KW is less harsh than before, at 40mm or lower the car tends to tramline. The improvement on the brakes would be the major benefit. Going over a bridge on the way to work the Eibachs produced a lot more noise and bump when passing over the plates but the Kw's seem to smooth the ride at the 30mm setting. When you hit a pothole the bang is the same as it always was but I think thats down to the LP tyres. The only other thing would be that the Eibachs grounded the car on speed bumps at comparable speed.

How do you adjust these? Is it 2 locking rings that make up the spring platform?

Good to hear your experiences.

Mine is as low as my H&R's will go, and the plastic undertray under the engine is less than 2" off the ground.

Once the show season is out of the way, I'll raise it to something a little more sensible. lol

Edited to say that I'm running on lower profile tyres on my 16s, so it's even lower than it should be.

i wouldn't be happy doing that myself josh, i have kw's on my octavia and runing it higher than yours and i have hit the ground a few times and broken the sump once already, be carefull mate :)

Josh.

You loosen the lock ring and adjust the ring in contact with the spring using the "C" spanners provided with your kit. The coilovers are good for the ability to raise and lower the car but it's a pain, if doing it again I'd look for 30 - 35mm lowering kit. By the way Josh to get the best from the "tuning " of the kit they recommend about 30mm drop from standard ride height.

I managed to raise and lower mine on the ground, after initial setting in the workshop I took measurements to small marks I made on the wheel arches with a low fuel level and all the junk emptyed out of the car. I use this as a reference on a level surface for raising and lowering the car.
