Leaving Ford for a skoda Monte Carlo 1.2 tsi

Featured Replies

Hi everyone I'm new to the site an just wanted a lil bit of info about Skoda cars I currently have a ford fiesta 1.4 petrol and I'm looking to trade it in for a Monte Carlo 1.2 tsi just wanted to know is the monte really faster ? Are they Reliable cars what are they like to own etc any feedback would be great thanks ????????????

Welcome .. I have a diesel monte and they are a great little car , I drove a 1.2 tsi 105 , and I found it nippy .. This is my first Skoda & it won't be my last ..

Our Monte is our third Fabia and so far were very happy with it. A little different to our previous models with having the sports suspension and crazy 40 profile tyres; rides a little on the firm side but we find it acceptable, with noticeable less role in bends compared to the standard elegance spec it replaced. As with our last Fabia we stayed with the 1.2TSI 86, which has plenty go in it for our needs, although if performance is what your after then you should look at either of the 105 PS engines.

Interior wise, then bar an occasional creek from the nearside front door card, it all seems well put together, with plenty of space and places to store stuff, even without the under seat bins. The seats are again for us a big improvement over the Elegance, being both comfortable and supportive and with the fully adjustable steering wheel it's easy to find the right driving position. Also like the darker charcoal interior and the optional (FOC) red seating material, which is darker than most photo's would suggest.

If your after toys then there are few to be found as standard in the Monte, as the trim is based on the mid spec SE; most of the additional cost has gone into the additional body-kit/seating, black metallic roof and the sports suspension plus large graphite alloys. Although again for us that's not an issue, the standard air-con works just as well as the cost option climate control, the maxidot computer, some rave about, again you could live without and in the Fabia anyway it's functionality is less intuitive or easy to use then say on the Yeti. Only options we added being the ESP +, cruise and headlamp washers, plus transferring the spare from the previous car.

Not owned or driven a Ford for a number of years now, think our last one was a P reg Mondeo V6; scary car to drive, that drank a lot fuel, so I couldn't comment on the comparison, although I'm not to keen personally on the look of the interior, however the latest wide grill Fiesta looks well on the road.

Hope of help,

TP

Fabias are great motors. Well screwed together and refined. The ride on mine is a little "wallowy". Rather plain inside but I dont like are those curved dashes that Fords and others tend to prefer.

You wont be disappointed and great value for money.

Just the other day I had a Monte Carlo TSi (105 I think) as a courtesy car whilst my 1.9 TDi estate was being repaired. I really liked the handling compared to my standard Fabia, much less roll and the ride didn't seem an worse either, also like the sport seats. I must say it didn't feel that quick (my TDi is remapped) but I suspect like the Octavia TSi I had previously, it just feels slow because the engine is very quiet unlike my tractor.

Things I didn't care for were the low profile tyres and the fuel economy - I reckon you would struggle to get more than 40mpg unless driving like a granny.

1.2 TSi 105 Monte would be pick of the range for me for sure; ive had a vRS estate and it was frabkly too powerfuk for its suspension and brake setup; this is the perfect compromise....hardly slow better on fuel and about the right balance of power for the chassis and brakes. Think of it as Skodas take on a Fiesta Zetec S.

Personally i'd look into the Tech model thats just come out and see if you can get a dealer to do you the VAT discount on it, comes with Sat Nav, Bluetooth and Maxidot in addition to standard spec for quite a saving.

Sat Navs very good, I have the Amundsen + on my Octavia Blackline and its actually won me over to the point id consider factory nav next time round. Bluetooth system integration is also very good. Benefit of having Maxidot is a nicer dash binacle with a high res dot matrix trip computer and also a proper water temp and fuel gague. Also get proper check control messages if something fails on the car rather than a warning light which leads you to RTM.

Two things worth noting......no Fabia has a rear courtesy light unless you spec the electric sunroof and if you want the car to tell you when your washers are running low you also need to spec headlight washers.

I've got a sunroof...and the rear interior light that seems to go with it.

The brochure doesn't explain this at all...has anyone found out the logic behind this weird situation?

Why such a small ( but necessary ) item is not standard is beyond me.

my fabia is the elegance level and it has a rear courtesy light. and i dont have an electric sun roof.

I'd suggest the Monte would be more equivalent in pace to the (older) 1.8 or 2L NA Focus.

same on my 1.2 tsi elegance
