Retrofit mod in Octavia Classic

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I'm planning to do some mods to my Octavia Classic and I asking for your help in this matter.

I plan to do the following mods (in no particular order):

1. Remote central lock

2. Cruise control

3. MFSW

4. Maxidot

5. Columbus

6. Parking sensors (with optical)

As you can see the list is quite ambitious (at least for a newbie like me) who has no prior mod knowledge. Eddie NL could probably tell me how novice I am when I am tackling my remote lock issue.

Anyway, while doing my reading for retrofitting remote I realised that one mod may possibly affect another. Like I need to change my CCM for upgrading my central lock to remote but if I want maxidot then I need the max version of CCM. i want all you kind Briskodians to give me your opinion about how to tackle the mods.

I realise that I can't do all the mods at one go, money being limited. So any help from your experience would certainly help me. Can you please tell me as to how much each mod would cost and where can I source good parts at the best price.

Many thanks in advance for responding and also for reading my essay ;)

What Mike says is all perfectly valid. Especially the bit about residual values & buying a higher spec car (but that's not always the point - retro-fitting can be fun and educational).

I'd start by getting your car scanned with VCDS and seeing what you have already got. It may be that you can add CC (for example) without anything else (although with your plans, you may as well change the steering controller whilst the wheel is off).

You are correct that one controller still needs to be compatible with another (e.g. Columbus needs minimum of 'L' revision to stop betters drain, Maxidot & CC need a Highline steering controller, etc.)

What year is your 'Classic'?

Update CAN gateway (£80) - 'L' minimum;

update Columbus (£450);

MFSW (£120) - 4-spoke leather pre-FL;

update PDC with OPS (£200) - complete front & rear kit;

highline steering controller (£80),

Maxidot (£220 new).

None of the above include fitting or coding, but give you a ballpark figure as a minimum (you may get lucky and get them for less.

I can't help with ECM or central locking as I've not had to touch these myself.

Skodateille.cz & CarSystems.pl also sell new stuff at good prices including kits for various things.

And theres still loads of mods you can do on the higher spec models too....

Wow guys, thanks a lot for all the info.

Mike you got me thinking about doing the mods. I guess I'll take it a bit easy now.

I initially thought that it would be cheaper to source used parts and then DIY instead of just buying it in the first place. But if it's not then that changes the equation. To be honest when I bought my Octavia, I didn't have the slightest clue about the different spec levels. I got to know a lot more when I bumped into Briskoda :)

KBPhoto its a 54 Octavia Classic mate. When I read about adding CC, I found that I need to change the stalk then code it in. So I waited to hear from you guys to check the cost of the parts and also possibly about fitting from Shark or other place. Because in order to change the stalk I guess I need to take off the steering wheel so that would also be a good time to add MFSW and Maxidot - all at one go. That way I might save a bit of money with the fitting - at least I think so or am I being very naive?

But guys please chip in your comments both about sourcing parts and fitting places and the respective cost involved so that I can plan my steps ahead for the future.

I also need the CCM part number with the respective remote unit part number in order to purchase the right parts to upgrade my central lock to remote.

Anybody willing to share the part numbers above to assist me with my remote upgrade please.

Thanks

My CCM is numbered 3C0 937 049 AJ and its a pre FL car like yours, and supports a remote. It supports a whole lot else so may be more than you need.

I think given its a 54 plate Classic, I personally think Mike's points really are valid about how much you are planning to spend, unless its something you will be keeping for a good few years (hopefully its in good condition so keeping it for years will be economical).

Thanks Adam. Anybody else willing to help???

I want to have a bit of flexibility when sourcing the parts so that I can ensure the best possible price.

It looks like there's a cheap used possibility on Ebay in the Ebay listings part of this forum....

ebay, breakers yards are the best place to get parts from for the steering controller maybe maxidot

I can do maxidot swops even when using a 2nd hand cluster, even by posting it to me

first thing you should is decide is what you want to do and the level of functionality

Anybody else with their ccm and the corresponding remote part number? Please!!!!!!!

Anybody else with their ccm and the corresponding remote part number? Please!!!!!!!

don't bother, because the question has been answered

if you use CCM

1K0 959 433AK or 1K0 959 433T (cheapest option)

or

1K0 959 433AR or 1K0 959 433CB (hard to find and expensive)

use this remote for all of the above (434Mhz) 1K0 959 753 G

don't use 1K0 959 433BT unless your door controllers are GEN3

There was a thread a couple of years ago by Browny-37 who had cruise and maxidot retrofitted into his Octavia Classic by Shark Performance, this did involve changing the steering column controller,but perfectly do-able. I got my latest maxidot cluster from Skodateile, cost approx £225 delivered, but I went to main dealer to have it fitted(another £90).

You won't necessarily need a max version of the CCM for maxidot. If you haven't, all you'll miss is the convenience menu in setup which allows you to change door lock behaviour etc (assuming you get the remote locking done first). When I had my maxidot put into my older Octavia, it had a min version, and worked perfectly fine apart from the missing menu, but I changed the CCM simply to get the FULL functionality. COst approx £60 from eBay.

Which of your Octavias did the main dealer fit the Maxidot for you? I quite fancy it for my 56 plate VRS but thought I'd need to get someone like Shark to fit it which isn't feasible as they're so far away, if I could get a Skoda dealer to do so for around £90 fitted I'd quite fancy it. Would I need a new CCM for an Octavia VRS though? I'm hoping not...

Thanks,

John

i think Mike went to a dealer in Manchester

no need to update the ccm unless you want the extra menu

So was the 'better' ccm only fitted to cars that had Maxidot installed?

John

Newer cars have a BT CCM which is a Max version, regardless of what cluster is fitted.

Although the coding needs to be changed for it to display in the maxidot, found that when I fitted a used Maxidot to a Vrs on here

I wouldn't be taking the car to Sharks as they're just too far away, I was just mentioning them as I thought it was the sort of job only a more specialist like them could do and didn't realise it was something a standard dealer could do. It's perhaps not going to be an easy job to get a PD VRS dash and it also sounds likely I wouldn't the correct CCM either so perhaps it's not worth pursuing.

John

Thanks for the information Mike, I'd rather have an honest answer so I can decide for myself rather than believe it's easier than it is and end spending hundreds for nothing in the end. Having thought about it I'll probably leave it as I wouldn't mind paying around £300 to get it done but it sounds like it could be quite a bit of hassle and given I don't use the car that often it isn't going to be that much difference in practice. Still trying to get my stereo sorted due to breaking the fakra connector so I think if I can get that sorted I'll leave the car alone.

To the OP, sorry if I've derailed your thread slightly but hopefully these posts help with your Maxidot decision.

You haven't buddy, you just added to it which is exactly what I wanted in the first place.

Anybody with spare 1K0 959 433AK ccm by any chance?

I've ordered the remote 1K0 959 753 G and now need the ccm. Thought I'd ask here just in case someone has it. I found an old thread with Andyvee had one to sell but given it's some ago not sure whether that is still available.

Any help is much appreciated and thanks once again to all you guys for sharing your thoughts.

If its of any use to you i'm just about to remove my OE wiper/cruise stalk from my 2012 vRS. The oe vrs stalks come with a toggle switch on the wiper arm to control the mfd which i don't need now as i have a retro-fit mfsw, so i'm replacing it with a stalk without the mfd toggle switch.

Not 100% sure of the part number until i get it off the car but i *think* its the same as this one:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-Mk6-Touran-Caddy-Leon-Octavia-2010-Cruise-Control-Retrofit-Switch-Kit-/171005578393?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27d0ba0c99

Let me know if its of use to you.

cheers

Rob
