Picked up your new Rapid? Don't forget to turn on/off your DRL's!

They are for parking only

Erm, did a car battery salesman tell you this?

I am aware of the Highway Code recommendations, and the Regulations. But experience bears out my point tat a vehicle approaching on side lights only becomes near invisible if all around are using headlights albeit dipped e.g. at twilight. Sidelights are totally inadequate for driving purposes.

No, a battery salesman had nothing to do with it - 55 years of driving has everything to do with it!

So, Rapid Ronnie is one of these infuriating folk who think that side-lights are for driving. NO! They are for parking only. if you are driving, i.e. making progress and you judge that lights are appropriate, then please switch on your headlights so's we can all see you.

Parking lights are switched on using the indicator stalk in the left or right position with the ignition turned off. One side illuminates only.

If side lights were parking lights they wouldn't have their own position on the main headlight switch.

If in doubt use dipped headlights, however I've been in plenty of conditions where side lights are perfectly acceptable.

Saying that though DRL's have largely reduced my use of side lights.

Me too, I pretty much only use them when it's bright enough outside that I can see but I'm not happy with the illumination on the dash.
