Best place to sell a VRS

Featured Replies

I've had my VRS up FS on PH's for 6 weeks now, and had no joy.

Was wondering if I should pay and list it here, or the Trader next

How many cars sell through this forum??

TIA

From what I can tell. Not many. Loads seem to be bumped and price dropped and never sell.

Presumably because those on here already have a car?

I may be wrong of course.

LOL - that's what I was thinking, although like you say a few get listed here

Having said that, when I look for a new car I go to the respective forum, as well as the usual suspects - PH's, Trader, eBay...

get it on them all for your best bet. autotrader, gumtree, freeads and im sure there are local adds/papers you can put it in.

Before you go any further have a look at your PH advert, make sure you have all the relevant details, decent photo's and is realistically priced relative to it's condition and other cars of a similar age/condition.

Yes, This is what I thought - is something wrong with the ad (or is it just the colour of the car lol). I've had someone look at it and he reckons it's fine

Been looking at sooooooo many Leon Add's recently for a friend... Top hit list of "needed" info...

Service History, hopefully listed as "full"..

if all dealer, state it.. If part dealer, part specialist, state it.. but DON'T mention that you've done a service yourself... Don't get me wrong, it's not a problem.. But unless you've kept the receipts, it didn't happen!.. Just say it's got full history (as long as you have proof)..

Has the Belt been changed, recent service?

DON'T list those little tweaks you think are cool.. No one cares, if they did, they'd be standard.

DON'T mention how it goes.. the assumption is it goes fine!

DON'T mention a reason for selling... It's obviously for sale.

Down play the mods, if any, mention only the ones obvious in the pictures. but be sure anyone that makes contact knows of any other mods... You don't want to waste everyones time.

Got both keys? That's a note worthy plus point that makes you look like you care for your car.

Got under 5 owners? Again, a plus point!.. but word as "3 previous".. not "I'm the 4th"

I haven't seen your add, so not pointing fingers.. These are just the things I've noticed recently whilst looking.

I'd mostly agree, except for these two. I'd rather someone made the effort to convince me that the car wasn't just ******, as my instant assumption is that they want rid for a reason. They can lie about it, but on a forum like this I'd hope people were a bit more genuine (wouldn't bother listing a reason on the likes of Gumtree or eBay, mind). And in a community like this, I think there's a certain value in listing modifications as long as you're not expecting them to actually add much value. You're trying to sell the car to someone in a similar mindset to you, someone who wants a standard car can look for one, and someone who wants a tweaked one can look for that. Time wasted is time wasted, and if the car isn't as described (even if it's "better" in your opinion) then you're still possibly wasting someone's time with a car which isn't what they're looking for. They may have a very good reason for looking for a (close-to-)standard car, insurance being the biggest one, and may not appreciate having to ring round people who've only listed obvious mods like wheels which would be easy to undo, but not mentioned the GTB2260 under the bonnet.

My 2p worth anyway :)

Yeah, I agree with you.. Was going on what I've been reading on the likes of autotrader, Gumtree and eBay.. Piston heads being somewhere in between this forum and an "Add"... It's like you say.. I just think that, in those situations, if you give a reason for sale it looks more like you're trying to cover something up.. And in general, mods will put Joe Public off.. But I agree that perhaps, it would save on phone call time if you listed them..

Thanks guys, have taken that advise on board...

I think th other factor involved is the colour - it's yellow which is a rare colour, and not to everyone's taste.

Me personally, I like it and the coulour didn't bother me at all when buying

For £12 on here it's got to be worth a try.

If it's modded it's cheaper to buy it that mod your own.

Nothing wrong with yellow. :)
