Conundrum

The new VW Passat has received rave reviews. Now, this might be blasphemy on a Skoda site (but it's all in the same family!) so given the choice would you go for a top spec L&K Octy 2 or a mid spec new Passat? Both with same 2.0 L TDI and DSG? It looks like pricewise an L&K Octy 2 is about the same price as the Passat SE - but the VW would be without any 'extras' whereas the Octy 2 L&K has leather etc., etc. and adding metallic paint and curtain airbags is still within the VW price. Though the VW has auto handbrake to prevent 'creep' or run back on a hill - and it's standard with the DSG gearbox. Can't even see it as an option on Skoda site.

Further consideration do you want a Saloon or a Hatch Back?

I'd take reviews with a pink of salt.

What you need to do is have a look at a site that has reviews written by people who own the cars.

Try having a look at this site.

Useful little site

Personally I'd save even more money and buy an Octy Elegance with a manual gearbox :)

I'd stick with the Octy L&K. It's faster, better equipped (leather, heated electric seats and so on), and more practical.

I'm really disappointed by the looks of the new Passat (and happy to be driving a new Octy)

i'd go for the passat on first impressions, never driven either though

Just back from of all places the Czeck Republic where there are already a few new Passats on the road. They look Ok but somehow they do nothing for me.

The new front grill looks a bit OTT and ,(as someone who has just traded in a three year old Passat 2 weeks ago for a new Octy 2.0tdi elegance estate, I am biased), I think that the new Octy just looks nicer (especially the estate).

The one thing I must say is that the quality of SOME of the fittings in the Octy are not as good as the VW.

My choice was made by my local dealers. The VW ones are like buying a car out of Tesco. Totally impersonal on both the sales and service side whereas the Skoda dealership here in Perthshire could not have been bettered.

Lastly, before we went to Prague I contacted the factory and arranged a tour. Getting there took a bit of organising but we succeeded and we saw among other things how the new Octy is put together. After seeing that you will definitly want to buy one.

George.

The Octy 4x4 has this and I think it is an option on the 2006 model year cars.

love the estelles on the sig banner :D
