2004 Fabia VRS - creaking suspension.

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Sorry if this is an annoying question..

I've had my 'new' 2004 Fabia VRS for a few weeks now but in past few days the suspension has become really creaky (noticeable when gently driving over speed bumps for example).

I'm not mechanically minded but am concerned that this might be an indication that some thing has gone wrong?? Handling is still fine, I can't notice any differences although the tracking may be slightly out as when driving straight the wheel is very very slightly tilted left.

I haven't driven the car hard what-so-ever since I have owned it and I certainly haven't hit any bumps or holes in the road .

Again, sorry if this is an annoying question that is clearly difficult to answer going on my basic info here and not seeing the car but any opinions would be helpful as I don't want to make an issue worse, but likewise I don't want to take it to a garage and get rinsed with an excessive/unnecessary bill!

ha

Cheers!

If it's genuinely a creaking then look at the springs, especially if it's been lowered, if it's more of a clunk over bumps then the drop links would be my first thought followed by console bushes and ARB bushes. Most of this can be checked just by having a look without any special tools or skill.

Does the creak seem to come from the front or the rear of the car? Or both?

How many miles has the car done?

Do you have any history/receipts suggesting that any suspension components have been changed since it left the factory?

HI guys thanks for the replies. I'm struggling to locate the noise and it seems to come from every corner (but I may be wrong!)

The car has never been lowered, it has full service history and no evidence of any suspension parts being changed (not on paper at least)/

It has just exceeded 70k.

It is a definite creaking sound not clunks or bumps. A bit like that of an old rocking chair hah!

What should I look for when inspecting the springs?

Thank you again guys.

I got the same sort of noise, I'm guessing shocks just need greasing, you know the bit that goes in an out wher the shield covers

I hope so and it's nothing worse!

I've got the same problem with mine. Mines an 2004 plate. But mines been lowered. Still got creaking though

Same with my 54 plate just under 60k miles. Creaks over bumps etc. even pulling away in 1st gear it creaks a bit. Doesn't seem like its anything to worry about. Mines going in for a service next month so hopefully will get this cured and find out what it is!

Try pushing on the middle of the bonnet nearest the windscreen, that's what it was for me :)

If it is that, stick some grease on the little rubber stoppers just infront of the bonnet hinges.

Give us a shout if they pick anything up - hope its OK :hi:

my prob was this bearing thing which is just over spring (part number 6N0 412 249 D) sometimes i hear wierd sound and steering wheel dosent come streight back well after corner turning

Waxoyl your bonnet hinges! Took me ages to figure it out on mine, was extremely annoying and only happened driving sedately over uneven surfaces, it driven briskly it didn't do it!

Hi, I had bad creaking over speed bumps. I fixed it by putting the car up on ramps, then squirting ptfe enriched maintenance spray over every suspension Bush. So the ones the wishbones sit in and the roll bar links and bushes. Then drove it for a mile whilst still wet to work it in. Fixed all the squeaks!

If it is a creaking noise spray the consol bushes with silicone grease, creaking gone, if it is more of a clatter there is a little black pad between each of the bonnet hinge bolts, twist and release, then throw the F'in things away, clatter gone. Had both on my '54 Fabia VRS nearly drove me crazy, problems/noises now GONE, HOORAY!

Yup.. Gonna echo the above... Creaks on the Fabia tend to be one of the big bushes.. Front, or rear.... Get the PTFE grease on them, shuts them up until winter, when you do them again ;)

It's almost like there's no speed bumps in Germany.

Thank you all very much, genuinely appreciate the advice, great community. Looks like a greasy weekend!! haa

I have exactly the same problem a loud creaking noise- worse over speed bumps- seems to come from all over the car- sounds terrible!! Did you sort the problem out? If so, please let me know what it was!!

I have 54 plate Fabia -90000 miles- never been lowered.

It seems to sound worse when its been raining- and is there most of the time- its driving me mad!!

Thanks

I have the same, I have changed every bush and still have it, I think my (now ex) mechanic never greased the ARB bushes am going to slightly undo all ARB bolts and spray grease the bejesus out of it all

I have bought the grease but not gotten around to doing anything yet - bloody work. But perhaps this weekend, yep I agree with your description Pinky2722, exactly my issue. I have now noticed that is comes and goes mind?

Once greased up I will let you know if there are any improvements haha
