rubbing / grinding noise from wheel

Featured Replies

Hi all,

The fabia has now a strange rubbing / grinding sound that appears to be coming from the rear right wheel.

The noise seems to match wheel rotation.

I've had a quick look and can't see anything obvious from the outside.

Any ideas? I don't think it's a bearing as the grinding sound isn't like the one I had on furby mk 1 (although was at the front). This doesn't appear to whine quite so much - just a throbbing rrr rrr rrr kind of sound. :S

Bearings?

Jack up the car and wiggle the wheel....if there's some play bearings need replacing....I think.

Sure a techie will give some better info.

Sounds similar to the problem I had which wasn't the grinding noise like a few others had.

Is it mainly at slow speed such as crawling in slow traffic and does it dissappear if the steering is off centre?

That's what mine was doing and the dealers fitted the part that was released to stop the grinding and I've not had the problem since.

Incidentally this problem only reared it's head at around 20K miles.

Check too to see if there is a stone lodged between the disc and splashshield (ie backplate).
