odd problem with alarm

Featured Replies

For about 2 months I've had a problem with my alarm. When I unlock my car with the remote key fob the doors unlock and the indicator lights flash as normal, but when I lock the doors I can hear the doors lock but the indicator lights don't flash.

I wasn't concerned until last night when I checked all the doors were locked, they were all locked except the drivers door which when opened the alarm went off.

I turned the alarm off and shut the door ,then I used the remote to lock the doors, this time all doors locked and the indicator lights flashed as normal.

But this morning at work same thing happened, I locked the doors,no indicator flash and the drivers door was unlocked so alarm went off again, I locked the door straight away and hey presto it was normal again.

whats the problem please ?

thanks

it's a 2007 1.2 12v Level 2

Hi James, I'm not too sure on this one. But I'd suggest you read the car manual section on resetting the locking sytem of your car. It's easy to do but that may not be the problem of course. It may be a sticking lock solenoid on the drivers door, but probably not! I reckon it's either a reset needed, or there is a keyfob problem, maybe low battery. Batteries last only 5 years with average use. When the battery gets low it can cause a number of problems such as the one you complain of. It causes the cars locking system to go out of synch and malfunction. Another thing that will cause the locking system to malfunction is if you try to lock or unlock the car from too far away. It can cause the system to need a reset.

A friend of mine had the same issue with his alarm BUT the alarm was an after market one and the car was Nissan Almera hatch. Problem was the faulty alarm board, so he replaced the whole alarm system.
