Hybrid/KO4/GT28

Featured Replies

Hello Guys

Im a little undecided on which route to save and plan for! im wanting in the region of 280-320hp ish with as much street drivability as possible

Will any of the Hybrid's get me to 300?

Or is it just the Gt28 route ill have to take?

If it is the GT28 route what kind of prices im i looking at, iv seen hundreds of threads from various forums displaying a vast change in price, and also some saying the Hybrid's are better and most saying the Hybrids arent worth it?

Iv looked at the JBS stuff but i find that a little pricey, anywhere else i can find a kit?

Or is it cheaper to collect the parts individually?

Parts needed?:

KO3S/KO4/Gt28

310/550 Genesis injectors

Oil/water lines (gt28)

intercooler

Remap/DTA ecu

Which route would be the best bang for my buck so to speak? K04? GT28?

Any help is much appreciated !

Ko3s hybrid

Bam injectors

3inch maf

2.5 inch piped fmic

Can be done in the 2500 range fitted

280+ bhp

Best option out there gt28 = pants

KO3S Hybrid is the best option?

Is that mapped aswell? or just 2500 for parts alone

Mapping is 300 extra

And for a price comparison what would an average gt28 cost me ? 3k?

Double that

A proper turbo will require better pistons & rods, decent manifold, etc etc

Sorry for all the questions, I'm only used to high revving Honda engines!

Brilliant thank you.

So 280hp is the better option, beyond that is most likely unusable to a certain extent.

Not unusable just will cost you another 3 to 5 k ;-) for not much more gain

For example I (and plenty will disagree) am going GT2871r, but i have also got billet crank, forged rods, forged pistons, supertech valves, newmans cams, large port head etc etc. Thats before you consider the supporting mods... Turbo itself, turbo manifold, inlet manifold (somewhere :p ), throttle body, intercooler and pipework, clutch and flywheel, full exhaust etc etc again.

Not cheap but my choice... just my 2p

Lol should add billet wheel to that tubby dude ;-)

Your mannifold has been cut into about 10 pieces to copy :-(

Will have one done soon buddy.

Decent road driveability = early boost and consistent power delivery throughout rev range

Late boost (3500rpm+) and high peak HP at high rpm (eg 5500rpm+) = slow & frustrating road car, in real world driving conditions

To get a GT2860Rs, or its replacement the GTX2863R, to equal/outboost a hybrid KOx and give useable power at lower rpm will at least cost twice as much.

ie for the total cost (of just the engine + turbo + supporting mods) you could buy a WRX, Evo7/8, S4, etc and then stage 1 tuning it.

I'm assuming the OP's car is a vRS, so tbh, best going for lots of useable low ~ mid-range HP

$ saved on going for a BT conversion can be put into getting an LSD fitted, better suspension and brakes - which will give a much more driveable car allround

Big HP is meaningless without traction and handling to apply it to the road

GT2871r

Speak to Owens - ask about GTX conversion ;)

K03 hybrid is best bang for buck option. Plenty of low down torque for daily drive and in combination with good suspension, LSD,brakes etc.. very good track car.

+1 on this answer. I trust first you have sorted handling/stopping as power is nothing without control !

Thank you all !

im after a usable track toy aswell as good drivability, im off the idea of a Gt28 now as you all say its very pricy and not a great everyday driver.

Im getting the suspension and all first, i need a planted base before i go this route the vRS handles ok but not to my standards.

Coily's

polybush

LSD

Cast arms

RARB

thats my to do list atm, and ill be getting a remap end of the month aswell to keep me going.
