New Skoda Owner with some problems

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

I am from Melbourne, Australia and I have just bought a used Skoda Octavia 2010 118TSI Silver colour. I am pretty happy with the car initially when I bought it but recently I found that when I step on the accelerator and start moving the car slowly from stationary, or when I'm going up slope, I feel the car shudders, sometimes gently, sometimes really hard. I have brought the car to the Skoda service centre and have them looked at it and they said it is probably because there was an "outstanding campaign" on the car so I dropped the car to have them update the software for me because I still have my 3-year manufacturer's warranty up till September. However, I notice that the shudder has not really gone away and is still there so I gave them a call and ask them if it is normal that the car trembles upon moving or when during slow speed and then they tell me that it is "totally normal" because this is a "typical DSG gearbox".

Now I am a first-time owner of a DSG car, with my previous car being a 1997 Mitsubishi Lancer GLXi, so I don't really know how a "typical DSG" gearbox should behave. However, from my 11 years driving experience, and during this time I've picked up some knowledge from my father, I do know one thing - any big shudders or vibrations which comes on and off intermittently shouldn't be normal, and I hope that you guys out there who have way more experiences with skoda or DSG cars can tell me if what the dealers tell me is bull**** or they are right about it? I tend to not trust those service centre people more than my instincts because I've had bad experiences with mechanics back in the days with my Mitsubishi when they will just easily brush off little things like this and tell me that it is "normal" until it becomes a big issue.

If you guys think that this is ok, i guess I can live with it.

Thanks!
