led drl wiring

Featured Replies

I got some drls and want them to be on when engine is running. Has anyone got any wiring ideas?

One wire goes to the battery and one into a fuse in the main fuse box, doing it this way will mean they come on when you turn the ignition on.Try a search on youtube, thats how i done mine.Very easy.

To comply with regulations (and not get pulled) DRLs have to dim or be off when sidelights/headlights are on.

I used one of these:

A line from a redundant switched live in the fusebox and a line from the sidelights was all that was needed. (IIRC pin 2 from the driver's side light cluster did the sidelights :) )

Full instructions with the control unit. Took about an hour from start to finish.

On this theme, the regulations are quite specific (though the practice may be less so).

I had no idea that there are regulations etc.Ive had mine for well over a year and not been pulled, just lucky or they cant be bothered :whew: i also have a led light around the rear badge.

Have you got any pics of the finished product?

The lights must dim when the headlights come on because DRL's are designed to be seen in bright daylight. The same light output at night will be worse than driving towards someone with their main beam on to a driver coming the other way. DRL's are not directional in their light pattern and scatter light everywhere, and have a higher lumens output than HID or headlights, the latter is required otherwise you would not see them in daylight.
