Help! Removing turbo

Featured Replies

I have everything disconnected and I'm trying to remove it downwards to avoid removing the manifold. Is it possible? The internet says yes but I can't see how it can fit past the driveshaft .

Undo driveshaft 6 bolts take 5 mins then it will pass easy

i find an airgun is easiest to remove the spline bolts on the driveshaft

I never use an airgun on multispline bolts. Breaker bar and steady force, they are not that tight.

Will driveshafts undo with the car on its wheels on ramps?

Yeah the plunge in the CVs will let them come out

Cool, will give that a go, thanks. Might need to go shopping for triple square bits.

Ooo what you upto rob? Bigger turbo?

Sent from my dad's old HTC Incredible S, not a dodgy s3!

never had a problem on these before, they arent too tight as said, but can rotate the shaft if you do by hand so a quick blip loosens them.

To be fair I doubt you'd ever have a problem with the driveshaft ones it's more just a thing I avoid doing in general

Rob you will prob need car up on stands so you can rotate wheels to get to all the bolts.

That would be something of a challenge - it's on ramps:

you will need to get it on axle stands then to get to the bolts and rotate the shaft.

Bugger, okay that's easier said than done.

Removing the actuator has been suggested. Will try that first.

Why don't you want to take the mani off rob, doesn't take 5 mins and can just lift it out the top?

I hear it's a pig to get off, particularly one or two of the bolts. Hoping to have some time later today to do some more tinkering.

Yay, success! Managed to get an hour today, removed actuator from turbo, bit of wiggling and it came out easily.

Thanks all for your help.
