My fuel economy is weird, usually I get 36ish on a fast motorway run can get 38 by reigning it in a lil bit, today I wasn't hanging around and it's 39.7 plus it was 4 up with a full tank, luggage and my tool box!

Perhaps the computer is telling you porky pies to make you feel better.

Or you are using a different brand of fuel.

Or you've put more air in the tyres.

Always do tyres before a road trip, tesco normal petrol, no new mods and on my winters which are usually worse than my summers

Can engine efficiency be affected by air temp? Am I right in thinking that cars burn more fuel in cold conditions? We have gone from very cold, even freezing temps, to milder ones this week... today I think we hit double figures wooooo! hah

Well on the way back at the same speeds it now reads 39.3 I put the lower figure due to traffic lights and that I went to the shop. Maybe the engine's finally run in? It's clocked over 143k now lol

New record today, took it easy keeping to 70 plus had a long 50 zone with cameras. Round trip average 46.2mpg! Still on winter tyres too lol

Seems that the extra 1k milage has helped lol now at 144k
